I work for Sygma as some of you may know, one of the routes I do is in the Rhode Island area. I just got the Nuvi 465T in order to assist me with running routes in the NE area. Overall I was impressed with the features and such. Well I gave it a go on my Rhode Island route, and got mixed reults. As far as the bridge being closed to trucks on I-95, it did not pick this detour up, it wanted to take me over the bridge. I also need to travel over the Mt. Hope bridge, which is a 40-ton weight limit. I have the truck profile set for 80,000 LBS, which is 40 tons. Currently this bridge is set a a detour for trucks, so I have no choice but to go over. The 465T threw up a red flag saying I need to turn around and the bridge was restricted. Well I went over the bridge, and the 465T just stopped navigating altogether, no recalculating or nothing. I had to reset the whole route, and select the stop I needed to get to. While making delivers within Providence, it wanted to take me onto I-95, even though the on ramp was marked with a 18-ton weight restriction!!
So my overall grade is a D for this GPS...........it worked no better then some of the GPS units other drivers have for cars. For $500 this is pretty disappointing!!
Just bought and tried the Nuvi 465T

Did you go on line and update your Nuvi before taking it on the road? Seems to me like I vaguely remember reading about a firmware update similar to your unit locking up.
Please keep posting what you learn with this unit. I am still on the fence with the 465t, and am waiting for Garmin to drop the price and get a few updates down the road before I part with my cash.
Until then Ill stick with my old reliable nuvi 650. -
*** It did warn me though of those sharp curves while on that stretch, which is a nice feature. -
As for the result of the update, I still have had it do the "magical reboot" trick on me several times since. That error is definitely related (as in what happened in your example) to "going out of its prescribed route." It clearly gets upset when you go off its route and loses its mind with you for a bit (very much like my girlfriend does.) These "firmware updates" are likely to come fast and furious from Garmin because the unit is so new and needs to be wrung-out.
As far as the routing, I remain unwavering in our test results to date that that the maps and addresses are very thorough. However, the truck-specific routing is very incomplete at this time and is well below that in the PCM Navigator units (especially those with the new software upgrades. Until they "fix" this, it is quite expensive as a 4.3" GPS when compared to the reason a truck driver would purchase this particular model. It WILL be very interesting to see if Garmin charges for their first map and truck routes update when it does eventually come out. -
I used the 465T on my Northern Mass-Boston, NH route and it did fine. Although I noticed some stops I had, it seemed to take me off the highway too early, and route me through some secondary roads. I know this route from driving it often and have my own way to certain stores, so I'm not to sure if the 465T's way was better or not, I really would have to time it. One paticuler leg of the route has a bridge marked as 12'6", but its one of those arched bridges that as long as you stay more to the middle you can get under it with a 13'6" trailer with plenty of room to spare. The 465T did pick it up as low clearance, but I knew from experience that I could go under it.
I also used it recently coming back from Rochester, NY..........again worked great. I like the lane assist feature, also when passing through the Berkshires, it warned me ahead of time of the steep grade.
The FM traffic receiver is a nice feature, but only works in certain locations, most of upper state NY and some of Western MA it didn't work at all.
All in all I do like it, and plan to keep it..........I think with some software updates and some map updates, it really has some nice potential.
As far as my 1st initial assesment of the 465T while driving in RI was mixed. I don't know if any of the other units such as PCMiller and Goodyear would of picked up that #### Pawtucket Bridge as a avoidance.
****Just a FYI for everyone, I believe that your 1st map update from Garmin is free. I have a Streetpilot 360 and Nuvi 260, and both there 1st updates were free. So hopefully the same will apply to the 465T. -
I would like to hear from a chicago tester as that is my worst place for low bridges...

It has not run me into a low bridge in Chicago, yet. It did try to avoid a 3 ton limit road by turning me onto another 3 ton limit road last night. It was trying to avoid the tollway while I was heading straight for it to see what it would do. It finally gave up and reported that it could not calculate a route. It dropped the destination and went to free drive mode. That's better than just locking up, I suppose.
The routing is really odd in some places. Instead of taking me straight up 39 to the truck stop, it routed me an exit further, up through town, and in the back way. I can't see any reason for it to do it as it didn't save any miles, time, or avoid anything.
I noticed driving around town in a car it tried to route us through a trailer park instead of just turning down the highway a block away. It's done it before but this time the turn it wanted us to take was a block further down on the other side instead of being closer.
The searches really need to be limited at least by country. I do not need it to spend minutes shuffling through streets on the other side of the planet (not kidding.) -

I don't know what to really think of this GPS. As far as driving in RI I would be no worse off using a regular Automobile GPS. I was going down a road this morning to get to a store, and the darn thing kept telling me that there was a 24 ton limit, and kept trying to turn me around on every freaking side street. There were many other trucks using the road, and I didn't see one sign that had weight limit restrictions. So for as far as driving in certain sections of RI, this thing is a major pain in the butt!!
