Do I have to hire a driver before applying for insurance to list him on the policy for a quote?

No you do not...
Just call your agent with all of the driver info that they request and truck info he/she will be driving to get a quote. -
I've been looking for insurance for a E450 and I was told I had to have the driver listed and his CDL info. before I could get a quote. Also that as owner, I would have to be listed as well and go get my CDL (and have for 2yrs) before I could get insurance?!
I went to Progressive and was not told ANY of that! -
If you were told that in the context of you being an O/O (driver, in other words), then fine, that's probably just bad communication.
If that was said meaning ANY owner, driving or not, you might get the doc to check your butt for smoke damage from all the stuff you had blown up there. And find a different agent.x1Heavy Thanks this. -
When agents don't hang up and begin to expound on what things you cannot do without, its time to find another agent.
Keep in mind, one driver is pricey.
Two drivers, particular YOU being brand new CDL holder because agent told you so will need a time to discover that agent has successfully increased their revenue from you each month in policy bills.
They only care what money you pay them. Everything else is smoke and mirrors designed to maximize that. -
Yes, if you want insurance, you will need to be insured. You wont be able to get insurance at all without a primary driver. YOu need to have an insurance agent,. its worth the few hundred bucks. They go to bat for you and get you the insurance. As a new company, no one will take you on. Most likely it will be progressive. How can they give you an insurance qoute with nonone listed and research a background? they need a foundation. Progressive takes gambles on people with minimal cdl background and their rates arent bad. Once you get accepted, you can ad drivers and they will qoute you the addtional rate charges for said added driver. I had a driver ran and once givin the drivers license number, they researched the driver history and came back with the negative background on that driver. i was qouted rediculous rates do to the background. See how that works.
