That is why I said that I have hauled very, very few loads that specified a dedicated trailer, and one of them I ask why, because the total load took up a whole 2 foot of trailer 18 inches high. He said he just wanted that in the contract to make the guy on manager on the other end to have to pay full truck load rate. It was a company move. lol
He even told me If I could get a load go ahead and haul it, but t was a friday evening, so I didn't even try. lol

Id say 90% of my freight is exclusive use. 75% of that is legitimate, either because of time sensitivity or high value. Rolls Royce doesn't want to risk some nitwit fork lift operator hitting their 15 million dollar engine. That's a legitimate concern. The other 25% of the time its just the customer being hard headed. And thats fine, if I need to add a partial to get it up to an acceptable rate i wouldn't agree to their desire for exclusive use. Id like to do more ltl and use up my whole deck, but not at the expense of my good paying main load. Just kinda stings feeling like you are leaving easy to make money sitting in a dock.

I always ran open deck and usually step deck. I just didn't get a lot of dedicated contracts, and a lot of the time I had the whole deck left on full loads.
I never needed a partial to get a full rate, but loved grabbing one when the oppurtunity presented itself and I had time to mess with it. That is as long as it was not far out of route.
Some of the best laying loads I ever hauled was partials and usually when I hauled them I was in the north west where truck load load rates sucked.
One I remember well I started loading in Seattle, finished in Mt, and started unloading and reloading in Texas, it worked out that everytime I unloaded something something was available to load till I finished in Florida. lol I have hauled lots of partials that paid full truck rates or very close to it, and usually will have one that pays well before I start putting together an ltl load.

I’m amazed people allow their self to be tracked for free. I don’t mind being tracked but honestly I should see something out of it for your convenience.

Again, I'm referring to a broker or shipper requiring access to tracking the truck. This has nothing to do with ELDs or any other tracking method already in place for internal use.

My question is would you give a broker or shipper access to tracking your truck if it is required to take the load?

I wish you would, so I wouldn’t have to deal with flatbed junk in a van.

BTW, if you get a chance look into Janus International so I don’t have to deal with their 16’ crates of rollup doors. :biggrin_25523:

For too many loads already, it is not even an option but requirement. If you don't let yourself be tracked, you will not get loaded. There is not that many options in today's market to be so choosy. So, Yes. I will let them track me, especially if the money is decent and I want that load bad enough.

In a way, that's their load and they have the right to know where the load is. It is not like they are interested in what I do off duty in private life.

IF I want the load and they require tracking via an app, then I do it.

IF they require tracking and I won't do it, then I guess I'm out of the loop.

As a previous poster indicated, I use these apps on the tablet I use in the truck, not on my phone. That way, when I'm out of the truck the tracking doesn't stay with me on a cell phone.

In addition, I only start the tracking app when I arrive at the shipper. When the load is delivered and I've sent the load complete message/confirmation, I disable/force stop or delete the app altogether.
