Close Call (Cable barrier to the rescue in gut-churning dash cam video)

I always wondered if those cable barriers were worth a #### and my question has been answered.

 

I was surprised the other driver never stopped. Or, maybe he did after the video stopped.

 

Yea, he really should be doing 60 down that road. Of course he didn't stop. He was too busy trying to slide in a ditch on his side.

 

Have to be careful when stopping for a wreck. Lawyers see you as a participant. The trucking company you work for can be sued, but will settle out of court for a smaller amount. I know for a fact this happens often.

 

I did not know that. However, it makes perfect sense, now that I think about it.

 

There's two ways to look at it.

1.. he was scootin a little quick, but that's an iffy call on that worn lane. The hammer lane at 60 would have been foolish, although they do it all the time.

2) Inexperienced drivers can take a lesson on how he didn't PANIC when adversity came at him.
He didn't jam on the brakes and make erratic maneuvers on that treacherous track.
He let off and eased it to the right SLOWLY while keeping it under control. A hard brake there would have sent him either into the other truck, or jackknifed in the ditch.

Ice is very unforgiving.
Especially when you push against the grain.

 

I know of several cases where innocent drivers were caught up in lawsuits, simply because they stopped voluntarily or stopped because traffic in front of them was stopped.
One case involving the company I worked for, a woman saw a wreck and it traumatized her so much she had an asthma attack and suffered PTSD. She was awarded 10's of thousands of dollars. Her family member at the wreck scene was taking photographs of license plate numbers of cars and trucks that were stopped, so it's safe to assume many people and companies were sued by that woman.

 

Those strip mall ambulance chasers like Saul Goodman make it hard on all of us.

 

And she wasn’t part of the wreck? At that point you need to put these kinds of snowflakes down. What happens when they see a mangled up body with the head 500 yards down a severed arm under the car and the leg sticking out the window? I swear we’re becoming a generation of snowflakes and victims. So far from reality that when reality comes breaking in your door you completely choke.
