I'm not a mech, just a dumb company driver, but figured this would be the place to get an answer. 2018 FL Cascadia, DT12 Detroit automatic. Sometimes when the optimized idle is set and I bump the rpms to 900, it will suddenly jump to 1250 rpms and run that way (sounding really weird, like the timings off) for a couple of minutes. When it does this the temp goes up to the cut in for the engine fan. Thought it might be regen but the instrument says soot level good. It just doesn't sound right. I'd hate to take some shrapnel through the firewall while I'm sleeping. Runs fine otherwise. Is this normal?

Yes. Its doing as parked regen, just let it get on with it and dont stop the motor before it finishes its cycle and drops back to normal idle.
Upinsmoke and allendriven Thank this. -
It d doesn't drop down, just shuts off from there. About shakes me out of my bunk. Too many comeputers on these things now. Thanks
Upinsmoke Thanks this. -
Sounds like a parked Regen to me also. It normally takes about 20 minutes. It will start at every 6 hours engine idle time.

The optimize idle system has a thermostat in the sleeper you turn on for heat or a/c. When optimize idle is on it will monitor the batteries and engine oil temp. Start to recharge the batteries or keep engine oil warm
Then you can have sleeper thermostat and it will keep the cab/sleeper temperature also. My current truck had the battery systems. It had 8 batteries and they run electric a/c and it has coolant heater for winter. It will heat coolant and heat sleeper and engine block. The batteries last about 6-7 hours. Then at 12.2 volts the engine will start and run 2 hour to recharge batteries. I have noticed since it 2 hour to recharge the batteries. If I'm doing a 34 hour reset on the 3 battery recharge cycle at 6 hours engine idle time. It will do a parked Regen -
I'm Regen now soot Level is low. I don't think the system waits till it full it just automatic does a Regen ever 6 hours. Maybe that why is only 20 minutes vs the older trucks it was 45 minutes.
