It seems like RI has been left off the update list, there are a number of bridge restrictions and highway changes. I-95 itself going through Providence still does not reflect that I-195E exits to the right now, not the left. Also it does not reflect the Pawtucket Bridge weight restriction of 18-tons. It also does not reflect the Sakonnet River Bridge that now has a 18-ton weight limit. It does pick up the Mount Hope Bridge weight limit restriction of 40-tons and insists on routing you around it, even though this is the detour to navigate around the Sakonnet River Bridge for trucks. Instead it just stops navigating and shuts down your route.
IMO this is some real glaring problems with the 465T. If you go over the Pawtucket Bridge or Sakonnet River Bridge , and DOT gets you, you are facing a $3000 fine plus points on your CDL!!
So in at least in this state, the 465T is no better then a auto GPS. These issues should of been included in the latest map updates.

Garmin should implement some kind of override feature with this unit, in order to navigate detours that are restricted in normal times, but because of construction or what not, open to truck traffic. It shouldn't just insist on re-routing you no matter what, and stop navigating to your destination.

Wow $500 just so you can gamble with your driving career or end up with a $3000 fine! You guys can’t check out your routes first before you take off driving and then make any necessary changes before you start driving?

It sounds to me like you go to the same shippers and consignees all the time. In Streets & Trips I mark with pushpins the exact locations of all my shippers and consignees as I go, and if there is only one truck route in and out of any particular shippers and consignees, I use avoid area rectangles to block off all other alternate routes in order to force Streets & Trips to only always use to correct truck route in and out the next time I go back.

Thus, the next time I have to go back there again, I just have to right click the shipper or consignee location pushpins and add it to my route and then hit route. Streets & Trips will automatically route via the correct truck route the next time.

Not to mention that I added the Truck Stops Plus add on template to my Streets & Trips, which adds thousands of trucking specific POIs, enables me to find and route to truck stops, super Wal-Marts, Turnpike Service Plazas, rest areas, etc. in seconds vs. minutes, shows me where all the weigh stations are at, and also enables me to quickly check my routes for restricted routes and low clearances via my laptop screen. Hence, I don’t have to buy truck stop guides or MCRAs anymore.

My set up cost me a small fraction of what the Garmin 465T cost and I don’t have to play Russian roulette with my driving career.

The truth is because the GPS maps are at the very best 2 to 3 years old at the time they are released for sale to the general public and also because the map data will always contain numerous mapping errors beyond the control of the map data compiling companies, the reality is there will never be a perfectly reliable trucking specific GPS navigation unit that will be worth the premium price tag. Thus, you are in effect needlessly paying a premium price for something that is advertised but you are not getting.

I mean the only way it would be worth the premium price tag charged is if it did truck specific routing reliably 100 percent of the time and so far none of the advertised truck specific GPS devices are even close to being reliable, and if you get a $3000 ticket or worse, it could possibly end up being the worse investment and mistake you have ever made.

    Link Thanks this.

This would be the ideal situation wouldn't it, unfortunately we have over 100 routes that can have stops added or subtracted, and not enough time to sit and map them all out during our 10 hour reset. Sometimes we are thrown on a route to cover for a driver who is sick, hurt or on vacation, especially if you are a spare driver. More then likely you will not know this route if you haven't done it before, or have only done it once or twice in the past. So a lot of us depend on a GPS unit to get us through.
As far as the RI route I do, I know it pretty well from driving it numerous times, so I know I have to avoid these bridge detours. I would bet money that even if you sat there with Street and Trips, you would not know that the I-95 Pawtucket Bridge and Sakonnet River Bridge are closed to trucks over 18-tons unless you did some serious research, like going to the RI DOT homepage. You probably wouldnt know until you see the signs to take the exit to detour around them. Now if your tired or whatever else, and miss the sign and blow by that exit, good luck!! You are going over the #### bridge and can only hope DOT took the day off.:biggrin_25525:

Not while driving into construction that is never shown on any map and you get shoved off onto side streets on a very poorly marked detour. I need a map on my dashboard that I can modify right now, not whenever I maybe find a place to park.

Like I said in another thread on the 465, we need to be able to modify the routes directly like in the streets and trips. If garmin would allow usage stats to be uploaded, the database would end up being incredibly accurate. If there's a low bridge, weight limit, bad road, whatever, we'll find it. Garmin doesn't have to send anyone out to look.

Now that would be ideal, a GPS you could modify on the fly and save it!!

Well, in my case my company supplies the truck routes that I just then sync in my software. Nevertheless, having been through that area as well, I'm also aware from previous experience as well.

Well you are lucky to have a transportation Dept that actually does their job. We get no such luxury as pre-mapped out routes, maybe google directions if we are lucky. Its pretty much here is the paperwork, keys and truck, good luck getting it done in your 14 hours. As I said, there are a lot of times us newer drivers are called at a moments notice to cover a route, with no time to do any kind of planning other then pre-trip the truck and go. More often then not you run out of hours and need to be rescued god knows where!!

Yeah, the Nuvi Detour function leaves much to be desired. Keep posting guys, I have great hopes for the next few upgrades to this unit.

Lsu Tiger must have forgotten to include the cost of his laptop when he figured out how little he has invested. The cost of his laptop mount $$$ for a good one, and the fact you gotta deal with it in the truck when you actually want to get out of the drivers seat. Mouse, charger, wires wires and more wires, etc. Not to mention the "slap slap slap" pain in the butt laptop abuse going down the road with laptop deployed. Oh, and then un-mount it when you want to actually use the laptop in the bunk, or or or if you are going into a neighborhood where it wise Not to let a laptop be seen, un-mount and hide procedure. Work work work... Been there done that, dropped it like a hot thing.

My GPS is hard mounted and hardwired to the dash. No wires, no mess, takes 1 second to remove from dash and hide. Besides, wouldn't it be illegal to try and use "half" of these extra nifty while going down the road? Not to mention dangerous, right click Russian roulette my hiney!

I would give a laptop a month before it was history in most of our trucks, especially our day cabs. We don't have those nice riding OTR trucks going down the highway. We have Volvo trucks banged up from hard abuse in cities like NYC, Boston and Providence. We are lucky if the A/C works, forget about a smooth ride!! Thats not even mentioning some of the less then desirable ares we deliver to.:biggrin_25525:
