CPR CAN be performed on the conscious patient. BUT, should only be performed by qualified medical persons.
The Good Samaritan laws, ONLY cover you if the person receiving CPR is unconscious.
Consciousness with cardiopulmonary resuscitation

 

CPR is only applied to someone that is dead!

You do not have be an EMT(though I was one long ago) to know that pounding on a living man's beating heart is a bad idea.

Okay I finally looked at this article, if this idea should ever go mainstream I need to pur the DNR order on my medical records!

 

Question is, did you read your own link? In each instance they performed CPR on the patient, his heart had stopped.
"Approximately 7 minutes after receiving tenecteplase the patient became unresponsive, with no pulse, and polymorphic ventricular tachycardia (VT) was identified on the cardiac monitor. Chest compressions were immediately started and the patient was defibrillated 1 minute after cardiac arrest..."
And the article never states the patient was conscious during CPR but refers to it as "likely episodes of consciousness." and "...some consciousness.".
Just sayin'...
