    Nope, and nope.

Only need a CDL at 26,001 or more lbs. 26,000 is fine.
There is no such thing as an air brake endorsement.

I don't think that is correct.

Well it is. There is no air brake endorsement. Here are all the endorsements listed.
Electronic Code of Federal Regulations (eCFR)

Now there is an air brake restriction on CDL licenses. It's just that though, a restriction on a CDL.

Total combined vehicle weight has to be less than 26K adding a trailer for 2k does not change anything, still put them 2k over a non-cdl license. Welcome to hotshotting, If you don't want to go CDL (and admittedly there are cost's and drawbacks to a CDL), then you have to stay in your world.

    26000 combined thats all folk's.

With my 2017 F450, 3 axle 40' gooseneck, I can tow up to 32,500, but if your doing that for that as a Hotshot you need a CDL A. No I don't use it for hotshot work.

I think he was confusing the need for a CDL A with needing a CDL in the first place.

The OP would be ok because he has a CDL. The truck is light though.

Depends on the rating of his truck n trailer and what its tagged for. Check the manufacture tags, one of my neighbor has a trailer just like mine but they only rated it to 26K because of his requirements he wanted for hotshot work.

    No you won't be ok.

Your truck gvwr is less than your actual weight.

The rating is from the manufacturer and is the weight limit for that truck.

    You are 2000 lbs overweight.

Plating it for more weight won't help.

Also just a little FYI, if you plate over 26,001 lbs, unless it is intrastate, you will now have to get apportion plate and setuo for IFTA.

Nope, one can drive up to 36,000 lbs without a CDL. 26,000 for power unit and 10,000 for trailer. One pound more on either one means a CDL sure, but a CDL isn't needed until then.
Here is a flowchart to show you. Page 1-4.
