That was exactly what I was always told never to do. Obviously you haven't had any issues doing it that way.

Also @ AModelCat if it isn't to late check ring gap in liners before you stick them on pistons. And if you don't already know, there is a top side of rings when you put them on pistons. New rings will have top marked on them you can see if yer eyesight is good.
