I have my CDL with only three weeks of experience with a trainer, but been out of trucking for driving two years. I contacted Swift and told me that they do not offer refresher .I would just be put with a trainer after the road test. So with that in mind with me being out of trucking for so long would it be better if I pick another Company that has a refresher course or takes the full course again. I guess just nervous, concern and worried that if I don’t take a refresher course on how things would go with a trainer.

Two years aint that bad. Ive been away at least 9 and off OTR for almost 20. I still have not forgotten how to handle the tractor trailer. Thats not the problem. My challenge is the ELD vs time and distance trip planning and the handling of bills of lading after unloading and so on. You will find something. Don't worry. Being with a trainer or in a refresher is a form of refresher, everything will come back to you quickly.

Being you only had about 3 weeks before getting out, I’d find a company that offers a refresher, now if you had driven for a few years, I’d say don’t worry about that, best of luck

After 4 years away from a big rig of any kind temp company assigned me to yard jockey a factory building and a shipping depot. The plant boss shows me a little Ford 9000 witch day cab and a 53 and says dock that one please and get this one to shipping building.
Gulp.
She backed in perfectly from angle classic school style in one move to about a inch by mirror.
Happy happy happy.
Until I got her onto the main road for the half mile of Mr Scratch, the trip back was no more scratch. (Shifting) a little rusty. But that comes off as easy as it comes on.
A year later we are in the auction house. Row of older tractors airstart tanks under frame. Oh my awesome trip back to memory lane for me.
Boss hops out asking how the hell do you start this? I said come on hop in I'll show you.
pppfffrrpth 8 seconds later blessed engine music as she warmed up. Boss learned something as did 10 others who were not alive in that model year tractor.crazybread Thanks this. -
Apply to a few companies and take the best offer.
No company will turn you loose with their expensive equipment until you're ready, so don't worry about that.
Keep Swift on the list, but apply to some more also.
Submit the online applications and wait for a phone call.

This one has terminals in Ontario & Sacramento and has been advertising for drivers at those locations.
Do the online app. and maybe luck out. FFE has a very good training program.

I know Freymiller and National Carriers offer refresher programs. I'm looking to get back into the business myself and those are two companies I am looking at.
I also have Schuster on my list. S and S Transport but I'm not sure they off refresher and would hire on a case by case basis. -
One thing to be mindful of. If you go with a company with a refresher course, make sure you are not signing a contract. If that's all that's available then go to a cdl school for the refresher.
