How does that work? You were probably still in the hotel right? They said after Day 2 you're on your own even though there are at least three days of Training. You had to pay for your own food all that time, hung around the depot all day and then went to the hotel to a room with a roommate for weeks at a time? That sounds horrible.

From reading various other threads I'm noticing a lot of people disappearing during Training. They're using Home Time and just not returning. It sounds like the option to finish Training isn't there because the moment you finish Training they route you to the next depot, test you, give you a truck and you're on your own. I'd assume that the process of finishing Training is done within a day or two.

I think that's the hardest part. Being home for the 34hr reset weekend sounds great until you do the math. Say you get in Sat afternoon, you have off Sun and Mon you're basically on the clock the moment you wake up. That's really not any time at all.

Supposedly there are Werner day jobs but who knows? I'd imagine they're very hard to get or far away.

This isn't the first time I've heard of trainers forcing trainees to do that. I assume they don't want the trainee on their stuff but how do they get away with it when they clearly specify in Orientation that people are not to be in the top bunk while the truck is in motion? Also why is the truck in motion to begin with? Isn't Training supposed to be the trainer shadowing the trainee to make sure that they can do the job and help them where needed? That's what I was told when I asked a recruiter. They told me that when the trainee sleeps the trainer sleeps so why would the truck continue moving? This is Training not Teams.

    Reminder:

    4 years experience.

    Goes to Werner.

Let this be a DIRE WARNING, people. A ghost story you tell rookies to put them on the straight and narrow.

Oh, and I guess his trainer crapped himself. But that's not the point.

MACK E-6, rachi and LoSt_AgAiN Thank this.

I still get a laugh when I read it. I wonder what potential wannabe truck drivers think when they stumble across this thread while researching the trucking world.

I "worked" for werner from dec 2016 until march 2017. except for about 9 weeks of that entire period, I spend the rest of it waiting in that hotel for a trainer. I was collecting $650 per week to basically put my life on hold for them. sitting in that hotel was one of the most boring times in my life. you can only watch so much Netflix. I am guessing it is worsened by the fact I was there around the holidays. the reasons I put up with it, it was more money then I would have made at a temp service AND it gave me a start in my career. I quickly moved on from it.

the 34 hour reset spend at home is really a joke. not feasible for people with spouses, children, homes, cars ect ect. if I only got home once a week, it would be cut the lawn, fix the wife's car, clean the pool, give her a peck on the cheek and go back to work.

I sometime work ALLOT of hours hauling milk. 60-80 hours per week and even more sometimes in the summer . the difference, I might sometimes work a 14 or 16 hour day, but at the end of it, I park the truck and to go my HOME with my WIFE and KIDS. last year I made $70,300 gross and I didn't sleep in a truck once..... came close once. july 5th (I remember because it was the day after the 4th) I didn't get home until midnight, and it was back in the truck at 4am to take another load to the plant (that not the norm, but these things CAN happen).

I typically have time to go home and work on the car, cut the grass, and clean the pool after work..... take the kids swimming and do those other things. if I were still with werner I could forget about it.
