Hey man so you are or were a LEO?

So you are saying it's a jurisdictional thing?

I have one other question. If I am not able to change a lane when a LEO has another vehicle pulled over. How much am I required to slow down? In the past I slow down but also I worry I don't want to get rear ended because that could potentially cause extra problem if a LEO is on the side of the road and I'm sliding because I got hit from behind.

I no longer drive. In fact, I can't even legally ride a bicycle or do the George Jones thing! I am old enough to remember when the likes of Swift, BJ Hunt, and Mr Orange did 55 and got heckled on the CB if they ever even thought about that left lane. IF I remember correctly some western states got involved in the process of them raising those speeds. I am also experienced enough to tell you I have also seen this in reverse. I have been rather light driving stuck at 65 in the mtns. Get passed on a downgrade by some lunatic going 80 or more, then about 5 minutes later was forcing me OUT of cruise because now he is pulling a hill. Caution and being courteous is about EVERYBODY showing a bit of respect. If you can get out of somebody's way by a simple few MPH reductions, why not? Do you think by showing a few minutes of doing a simple gesture the fricking sky will fall? Or will you lose your chicken hauler card? That job is tough enough as it is. When I was active most times I set my cruise at 59-62 and went on my way. BTW if you lose that chicken hauler card you can get a replacement the next time you talk to a truck stop attorney!

Has nothing to do with being able to handle the speed! If you had enough experience you’d know why

EVERY STATE has legal tolerances in their traffic laws in regard to speed. This is why you should never get a ticket for 1MPH over. If such a person gets one you should go screaming to court. I am not a cop, but I have spoken to cops (YES) in Ohio as well as other places over my career. I had an Alabama State trooper to tell me that he generally don't stop until you are 8 to 10 over. A word of caution on these tolerances though is in order. They are there for a reason. They are there because a non-certified speedometer can be off a few MPH. Just putting new rubber on your car can change the dynamics of the speedometer. Cops know this and understand it. I once had a friend that was a Georgia State trooper "clock me" out on I 85 just so I could test my speedometer. I used to test my speedometers using the yard sticks on the highways. Just a bit of math and a cruise setting is all it takes.

BTW, this really is not so much a dept thing as it's a cop's attitude thing. You get caught by a cop doing 6 or 7 over early in his shift you might get nailed in places like Ohio. Get clocked toward the end of that shift when the cop is headed home and you might be in luck.

If you are on a open stretch of HWY/Road and Truck A is governed at 63 and B at 65. A should allow B to pass politely. Helping each other out along the way. Even while I still only drive 4 wheeler. I still do that. I only over take and pass, or slow down a bit, to allow someone easier access. It's as simple as slowing down like you do for merging traffic at an on ramp. It's called courtesy to your fellow trucker/driver.

If you are inside the store trying to go out the door and I am on the outside of the store trying to go in through the door, why should I yield to you and allow you to walk out first? On that note, why should you yield to me and allow me to walk in first?

So there we stand, looking at each other. "I shall not yield!" Two morons butting heads. And everyone else who needs to go in and out suffers. I tell you what, hand...I'll yield. Come on out through the door first. I'll even hold the door open for you. I do not even expect a thanks. Have a good day and a better tomorrow.

Silly, right? Two adults battling it out to see who gets to walk through a door first. What's next...everyone running up to the cash register demanding to be next because they are in a hurry?

I don't disagree with the comparison.

Even before I got my license I always cussed the idiot blocking the left lane. The guy on the right is where he's supposed to be.

The problem isn't being in the left or right. The problem is being unyielding.

Talking with someone who is unyielding is like talking to someone who tries to open doors by running into them with their heads.
