I wont get in a pissin contest but I will tell you that I study rates and load densities every day booking loads and making changes to make a very tough business profitable and if the situation changes to make a reefer more profitable I would be running them in a drop of a hat. As to your statement compared to flatbeds everywhere is the wrong place at this time.

"You must have been..." note the past tense...

Yeah, I agree... rates really suck in general right now. Gonna be that way until some more capacity gets shaken out of the system too, I'd say. I study rates as well, and trucking is a tough business any way you look at it.

Been getting some $3 to $5 per mile loads, but it's not anything in the way of high-volume contracts.

Been talking to a few of our flatbed guys and the only freight they are getting right now is mainly in the southwest. People eat all over the country. I like reefer, and it's all I have ever really done. I can't imagine tarping loads in the kinds of weather and conditions I see it done in, and you are right... it takes a special person. Hard to look back at 50 years and wish I had taken better care of myself, but hey... it is what it is.
Pony, I want YOUR FM if you are getting $3-$5 loads!

Shoot for some of the pharmeceutical stuff, hazmat...

Hey... I get my share of $1.10 frozen loads too. Doing a cheap-freight beer load to get home this weekend.

Well driver I was in your shoes and had to decide on flatbed or reefer and I started a post. But to be honest im still in training and im at a reefer comp and my trainer showed me his pay stubs all the way back to feb 09 and his worst week was 2200 miles best week was 3300 now I can't speak for all reefer comp but this 1 keep the drivers rollin and I know that because I talk with drivers from the other terminals. But it all depend on your situation. And I almost went to flat but they just not gettin the miles and I have a lil 1 to feed so I went reefer but if you single wit no real bills and wanna stay in shape and you LOVE truckin then go for it but if u wanna make a lil change and I mean a little then go reefer u won't regret trust
