Don’t live in bowling green ky so I don’t know
Call McDonald’s in bowling green to see what their staring wage is...I bet it ain’t over $10
My point... anybody who says these jobs being created are minimum wage jobs isn’t paying attention to reality.

I still would argue that lack of good decent jobs makes people prefer to drive trucks vs working at a plant for the wages they receive. If they pay me $85k, eh... maybe 75k I will scrap my truck and go to work at Aluminum plant.
And I am talking about working class people. NO college diploma jobs.

Let’s make sure we are comparing apples to apples here

That $14.50 is walking in the door off of the street with zero experience. That’s $30K a year to start.

Care to share where you are walking in the door at $75K a year with zero experience?

$14.50 an hour is roughly $30,000 a year gross.

A (very) quick check shows a 1 bedroom apartment is at least $525 a month, plus utilities. Most 1 bedrooms seem to be between $650-700, again plus utilities. All in all, prettt cheap.

Rough math, at $14.50 an hour housing is going to be about 30% of his gross income.

Take that same job in Germantown, WI (the plant I run out of pays $15-$19.45) and a 1 bedroom is going to run at least $800. Go to Tomah (also known as in the country) and you're looking at $850 as there is no real rental market. $30,000 a year is basicaly poverty rate. You almost qualify for food stamps.

No person who is working 40 hours a week should qualify gor section 8 or food stamps.

I wasnt able to open the 2nd link, but the other 2 are a joke.
The first one is about some who sales dolls on Ebay. That's is neither a new thing, nor a '2and job'. People have been doing that since the dawn of the internet, and before that flea markets.
The third is about a young woman who can't find steady work as an actress while living in Manhattan so is forced to baby sit to make rent. Oh and let's not forget she works at a dance studio a couple hours a week.

People have been working on the side since the dawn of time. This isn't a new thing. The only thing new about it is selling stuff on Ebay and baby sit a couple nights a week is being classified as a 2nd job.
Hustling up side work is a great thing, but dont try to portray it like it's working a full time day job, then lumping freight half the night at the local dc 5 days a week

Again..not an apples to apples comparison.
$19/hour is $40K a year, not poverty level
We do so many folks believe they get to start out at the top making $100K year with a big corner office? You have to earn it! Not always true and there are some folks who are just plain lucky but let’s be real

The lower income of the working class has been struggling for hundreds of years. The only thing different is the income level to qualify for public assistance programs keeps getting raised.
My wife and I volunteer at the local schools, and something that always comes up during the fund raising events is 40% of the students receive free or discounted lunches. So 40% must be poor right? The parking lot must be loaded with rusted up old k cars, escorts, and caveliers. Nope, almost everyone is driving 3 year old or newer SUVs and minivans. Its rare to find a vehicle even close to the age or blue book value of my 04 f150.

A good argument can be made for working 2 jobs, vs. OTR. Given the time OTR takes. A “ Hustler”, could make a lot more, working one decent, and one side job. Most people don’t want to work anymore than they have to. Complaining about OT. Working just enough to fill the requirement, to keep a spouse happy, Each his own, Ive never turned down work. Only recently started to question the need to constantly try to make more money. Looking for ways to work less and live on less. Priorities change, Time becomes more valuable than money.

I hear the term "living wage" thrown around by some politicians.

Just exactly what is a "living wage"?
