How are you going to sue them?

 

You were in an accident and now you are scared to drive?? Then you think you can sue them for what?? Being scared, was it there fault you got in a accident?

 

I've read this and your other thread about this wreck, but I haven't felt a need to comment until now.

I'm going to be straightforward and honest. It does not seem as if you've ever been comfortable behind the wheel of a big truck. And now instead of evaluating what happened and figuring out what you could have done differently, you're sitting in the corner whimpering.

I, too was out driving in that mess the other night. Trailer nearly empty (less than 5000lbs), pouring rain, sleet, and 32 degree temps with patches of black ice. Road spray so thick that it's like heavy fog. I'm traveling along at 45-50mph with super truckers tailgating and passing me like I'm sitting still. One of them drifted into my lane as he went by, probably because none of us could see the lines on the road. I didn't get rattled, never felt pushed, and made it to my destination safely. I kept a safe speed, and kept a cushion of distance from other vehicles. Sure, I could have run at the speed limit. But those super truckers would have just increased their speed to pass me, since they always pass everyone. So by running well below the speed limit, it put them past me and ahead of me that much quicker. If one of them slid sideways as they passed me, I'd have had plenty of time to watch them sliding away ahead of me as I increased my distance and evaluated my 'outs'. There are always going to be idiots out there, but they eventually weed themselves out by ending up lying on their side in the median.


I'm sorry this happened to you. But if you're now too scared to learn from this and get back in the truck, then it's my honest opinion that you should not go back to driving.

 

Are you implying drivers who come from Rhode Island don't know how to drive? If you came close to hitting the guy in front of you perhaps you were a bit too close? Not sure wasn't there. Rhode Island gets snow just as much as the rest of the north east.

 

I also agree with the person above who said if your nervous about driving , perhaps this type of work is not cut out for you. There's nothing to be ashamed at. Everybody has their own individual talents. Maybe trucking is not for you. Wish you all the luck finding what your looking for. Look at it as a silver lining in the cloud.

 

A bad accident is never a good thing , but you are safe & being abit rattled is a norm . But , like said above , maybe trucking is not for you ! I had takin' a KW semi dump @55 mph threw 2 yards , 4 trees & a 4 foot drop going airborn for abit ! Scared the hell out of me , but the next day I got back into another truck & kept going . Its like riding a horse , if it throws you , you have to get right back on it or be scared of horses all your life ! During ICE or SNOW storms , one must slow to a comfortable speed , increase distance ahead of them & watch out for the other drivers ! It is only a muth that trucks stop on a dime , they slide easier & spin out just like any other vehicle . There are alot of super-truckers around that think they can drive in any weather like it was a dry road . Someday they will learn thier lesson , most the hard way . COMMON SENSE is always the safest way !!!! DO NOT let the guy/gal behind you scare you into driving faster than you feel safe driving , they can & will pass you ! Reasons why I have stated that drivers should only be trained during the season changes , "fall to winter" & "winter to spring" so you get abit of training in bad weather ! Good luck in your future !!
