I had my hazmat endorsement at one time here in MI, but I let it expire a couple of years ago.
Question: if I want to get my hazmat again, do I need to go through the background check and get fingerprinted again, or will that part already be on file and I can just take the test? I'm sure I could just go to the DMV and ask, but I thought maybe some of you had been down this road before.

michigan83 Thanks this. -
Not what I was hoping for, but thank you for the quick response.

All hazmat holders need to submit a fingerprint/background check every five years.

I have hazmat and like everyone else says, you have to go thru the whole 9 yrds again.

Yup, what they said ^^^^^^

Not only will you need to take the background check again, but you might have to take the written test again. In fact you might have to take every single written test ever, again. They did it to me. Went in to add a HAZMAT and they said, oh you need to take every single test. Including the Class C test. So I took the Class C written test, Class A Gen. Knowledge, doubles/triples, tanker, combination vehicles, air brakes, and finally HAZMAT.

Here in PA, you have to re certify every time you have to get your license renewed. So every 4 years. This includes test, fingerprint, background check. If you let your hazmat drop. You will need to take the "full version" of the test. More questions = more money.
