so I was asked if I want to go to mentor class and become a mentor.

I laughed pretty hard as I have only been with swift sense october.

Do they really think that i'm up for training this soon? I mean i know i can do a better job then my mentor did, but i still make to many rookie mistakes to be training people.

That's funny I was told as well today that as soon as I can get the required time in to be a mentor I should consider it. Was also told about leasing a truck.

neither one of these I am interested in just I just went solo.

lol...they have asked me about neither...mentoring or leasing....they did offer a regional (Lowe's/Costco) account to run...I like OTR ...I think I was suppose to want it....maybe later on after OTR wears me out.

Then Swift wonders why they have senseless accidents, and fork out millions of bucks every year. MAYBE if they only had mentors who have been driving a year or two (and that STILL isnt enough time)...and if swift coudl keep them around long enough to get that year or two in....and maybe if they'd pay well enough to actually have a student on the truck, and L/Os who were mentors didnt have to PAY for the student to be on the truck.....they'd have more quality mentors.

quality mentors would put out better quality drivers and thus lower the amount of insurance settlements.

They started pestering me about mentoring within a month of being back.

Amazingly, all that stopped when I showed my DM there is no top bunk in this truck. I asked him who would have to sleep in the hammock. His response: "Huh?"

I figure I can get enough freight since I'm qualified for everything Swift does except flatbed. And I have no designs on installing a headache rack.

I trained with CRE and I have my trainer from there telling me I should be a mentor.

Yeah, I just found it shocking they would be asking me so soon. I must admit Theres aspects of it that make it sound appealing. I know I can do a better job then my mentor, and others I have seen. Just putting in the time to show a new driver things, rather then pointing them in the direction and watching a movie in the sleeper. But I don't want to jump into something that I'm not ready for. I still have alot of problems with swift and my boss's. So untill I get that warm and fuzzy and start getting along with the office people, I don't think I should be the welcoming wagon for swift.

My first trainer was another 6 month wonder. I did learn some from him, but he shouldn't have been allowed to train women, since he didn't think women should be driving a truck. My second trainer was much better. Learned a lot more from him, and he was a decent guy too.
