This one looks like fun. Will be a doozy to flash firmware on all affected devices, when (if) one ever comes out for affected platforms. Is it HDD firmware they're infecting or mobo firmware? I can't exactly be sure from the article.

    HDD's, ack.

Although a pain to have to flash firmware on HDD's, it can be done, or if you're lucky you can RMA the sucker and get a new one! Though, this hack is a little more lower system level I'd like to see, it's awesome that Kaspersky detected it. Glad we don't have much of it here in the US. That would be a pain to clean up.

I don't trust Kaspersky any further then I can throw them. I don't doubt this malware they "discovered" is legitimate. But I feel like Kaspersky is just as much in the business of writing malware as it is in developing "anti-virus" software. This little diversification keeps business good for them.

I've been running with Avast A/V, and feel just as leery about them, and for that matter, most all the rest.
I've also read articles that said it's not only 'embedded' in the PC firmware (hard disks, SSD's, motherboards, etc), but has expanded to be in firmware of routers, and some modems.
Gotta give NSA credit... with them so hell bent on wanting to know every microscopic personal detail of everyone, they're good at sneaky ways of gettin' the job done.

I would rather see NSA in my stuff than china or Russia. They might all be sharing. Who the F knows. Not me. I was born naked at least when I die I'll be wearing a suit.

Have used Kaspersky for years its the best I've ever used it has has saved me on numerous times while traveling on the www.
Everything else I've used would alert me after I got infected with something, all the years I've used Kaspersky I've only had to manually remove something one time.
