What is it called when you own your own truck but still work for an O/O (oilfields) are you just a company driver still?

O/O leased to an oil outfit?
Same as an OO leasing to Landstar or Oakley I would presume.

    I've been wrong before tho.

i may not fully understand your question...

are you saying, that YOU own a truck, and that YOU are doing work for another owner-operator, and he IS paying you?

    if so then....

outside sub contractor/vendor? (for the other o/o?)

if YOU own the truck, you ARE NOT a company driver.

You are still an owner operator, only difference is the guy you work for carries the bulk of the liability. Same position I am in, 3 million in cargo and liability is more than I am willing to pay to haul this freight. It is the same in the oil fields, I worked there too...

Now these guys leasing their trucks from the companies they are employed with as drivers, until they actually own the truck, I would not call those guys owner operators.
