Truck in my profile has a 3406a cat. Three new 12v batteries. Have voltage drop tested it and have less than a volt drop Truck was converted to 12 volt previously but looks to have the original starter. Truck is a very poor cranker. Warm or cold Would the original starter work on 12 ?
Starter problem.

Horribly slow if at all, plus the starter itself would tend to over heat without enough voltage if it was a 24 volt one.
I have seen a few older trucks that were 24 volt start / 12 volt run.
Uses a system of relays to swap battery positions to give 24 volts to the starter. -
The truck had a A model cat that you think has the original starter and it cranks slow.!?
Put a new starter in it. Could be a 24 v starter with only 12v going to it..
Either way it's probley 35 years old if original.
Get a 39mt delco.SAR Thanks this. -
