Swift is what you make it. If you want to make good money you have to first work smart then hard. Study and research all the material that will allow you to get your cdl if you do not have it. If you are currently employed and able to do it, pay off all your debts and lower your bills, without creating new ones. Save a decent size nest egg so that if there is an emergency you have that on hand.

Orientation isn't bad, it's informative and about 2 1/2 days long. You will be told what they expect from you as a driver and what you can expect from them as a company.

Unless things have changed they do just a urine test. Afterwards though they can at any time do a random breathizer test and urine test so make sure you are clean as can be by not doing it in the first place.

The pay is what you make it as well. It's all up to you. If you can be a self starter pushing for loads you can make good money in a weeks time, week after week. But you have to work smart. Getting proper rest, learning company policies, accepting loads, timing hometime on the weekends, instead of the week if you can help it, staying out as long as possible and when you do go home stay about a day or two.

They treat me with respect. As long as you treat everyone with the same respect you want; it's returned. It's trucking and it's a business of course. Our job is to drive and get the product from shippers and take it to receivers as safely as possible. As long as you don't get lazy on yourself you should be good.

 

they do an urine test. if you're worried about passing, go get a self test kit and take it. otherwise, if you want to continue with this career, stay off the drugs. doesn't mix well with trucking.

 

also, i agree with what newtrucker posted. job is what you make of it. will be hard at first but gets easier as you learn the business.

You don't pay up front. You get your training and CDL through their academy. Once through with training they deduct the amount from your weekly settlements over the course of a year. After that first year they reimburse you on your weekly settlements over the course of a year. If you stay 24 months it's completely free.
