Yes the trucks are governed at 65. It doesn't matter much on the east coast will all the traffic, but when you are in Colorado and the speed limit is 75 it really sucks.

I average at least $800 per week on the Longhaul division, before deductions that is. I would make more if I either stayed out longer or didn't live in Maine. But living at the end of the country the freight choices aren't great. I can either get home or make money, I chose to get home, your preferences may differ, and in CA you have more choices for freight i'll bet.

On line haul I wouldn't expect to spend more than yoru 34 hours at the house each weekend. You may get more time some weekends, but don't plan on it. If you want more time at home for something special your FM should be able to accomade you. Some weeks you will get home friday afternoon and leave out monday morning, some weeks you won't get home until saturday and leave monday morning, it isn't always predictable. Fozzy you are correct that the best way is to leave sunday and park at the shipper for when they open monday morning, it starts your week off well.

Fozzy: the Recruiter you talked to doesn't understand the pay system very well at all, or at least doesnt' explain it well. It does take a bit of time to explain properly but here it is in a nutshell: For several things that you do you get "points" Better fuel economy gets more points, Fewer extra "out of route" miles get more points, and more revenue gets more points, as well as a few other things. Accidents and problems will lose you points. Towards the end of each month your points are added up and your new pay percentage rate is determined. Your first month will be at 23% and then a "snapshot" of your points will be made and you will get a higher pay rate. (I have never met anyone who stayed at 23% after the first month) The points are calculated so that all of the average values for the entire fleet will put you at 28%. If you are better than average you will earn a higher percent. Your pay will go up or down by the month depending on how well you do. You can earn up to 32%, but that is hard to get.

Yes in linehaul you are guaranteed 46 out of 52 weekends at home. You can always choose to stay out a weekend or two and see if you can get a good run and see the country.

Now I am supposed to call them today and set up my hotel reservation wich I plan on doing. But I did have what seemed like a decent job offer throwed my way. I work at a Heavy duty parts store so I have many truck drivers come in all day. This owner operator cam in and offered me a job. He speel was first he wants to put me onto salery...he told me to come up with a figure that I want every week and he would see if I was out of range. He said he did that to make it easer on his guys so they didn't push themself for the miles. He said I would be pulling 2-4 loads a week and would be home almost every other day. He only pulls in the nearby 3 and 4 states in the midwest. He said that I would be driving a T2000. He said it would basically be mine...I can do whatever I wanted with it. When he turns me loose he would give me my own crdit card for expences and a cell phone for use. Do you think I should check into this more or not? Oh it would be 48ft flat with little to no tarping...due to the fact it is ruff lumber.

Howdy, folks. I graduated from trucking school two days ago and this is my first post to this site.

I've been interested in TMC for a few months. While at trucking school, I was pre-hired by TMC. My roommate told me that he wished he would've been pre-hired by them because he has a friend here in Georgia who drives for them. I thought he told me his friend made over $1200 weekly. A couple of days later I spoke with a TMC recruiter at our school. He said some first year TMC drivers BRING HOME over $1200 weekly. I later asked my roommate "did you say your friend MADE over $1200 weekly or that he BRINGS HOME over $1200 weekly?" His response was that his friend BRINGS HOME over $1200 weekly. I obviously misunderstood his original statement, because a driver would have to make at least $1700 weekly to bring home that kind of money. Are there any TMC drivers on here who make/bring home this kind of money or know of TMC drivers who do?

Since TMC hauls mainly construction materials, I also asked the recruiter about the driver income during slower times when construction decreases. He said I'd still make over $900 weekly. Is this too good to be true?

The best of luck to you....and to me. I was more or less forced into trucking, but its something I've thought about for a long time. I have kin and friends who are/were truckers, and despite the "downs" in the "ups and downs", they love trucking.

In the last three years, my company has cut attendance bonuses ($1200 annually), commissions ($8000+/-), and two months ago, salary ($2600). I'm predicting that I'm the "leader of the pack", as I'm the first to leave this "great" company. On top of that, I worked M-Th with my employer, and had a mobile barbecue business which I operated on Fridays. My employer then cut a route guy who called in sick too much, and divided his route among the other drivers. I picked up six stores down in Eufaula, picked up no extra pay for my effort, and had to work these stores on Fridays, thus, eliminating my barbecue income....a DOUBLE WHAMMY!

I got to wondering, and asked myself, "What can a 45 year old redneck who doesn't have time, money, nor desire to finish up those 20 hours of accounting, do to make a good income to support my wife and three children and hopefully, bank some cash?" Now, you live in the same area I live in, and you know the limited options for to make an income of $50K or even $40K. Since I've pondered getting into trucking for years, it became the obvious choice for me and mine.

Maybe we'll meet at TMC. I should find out today if I'm being hired. I have a doctor's appointment today, the results of which will answer what TMC is wanting to know about my physical capabilities. I believe I'll make it. I need to make it.

Well, I found out a few hours ago that I'm expected at TMC's orientation on Monday morning, Oct. 1. A classmate of mine from TS who lives in Newnan, will be riding to Columbia with me. I can't wait to get started....I need the money as my last paycheck is this Friday. Good luck to you too.

:biggrin_25514:hey people, newbie here, im currently in school, and i have a few questions,
1, im currently in school at All State Career, they have a location in Lester Pa, MD, and W.VA, does anyone on here know anything about the school? are they good? im there 6 months,
2, I was orginaly going to Schnider National, i have done my research on the internet, and they, well what i found, they are the 2nd best company to work for? is this true? however, after just reading 8 pages of pretty much good things about TMC, im starting to rethink my choice here, after reading the post about Schnider, its even between the good/bad, but not here for TMC, and i love the fact that they pretty much demand the trucks get washed once a week, nothing looks better then a freashly cleaned truck rolling down the highway. anything would be great...

ooooo yeah, does anyone no how old you have to be to work there, im 21, and some companys require a certian age, hopefuly its 21
    thanks people
