    Actually I was a freightliner mechanic, and my suggestion was for him to use to get safely off the side of the road, not to continue on his trip to where ever...... so don't try to come on here and act all grand in your ASSumptions. Common sense would dictate that he use my quick fix to get him to a safe area, not drive an engine w/o coolant in it. But also you would have to understand how an engine works and it's components beyond just holding a steering wheel

    with big companies like this, NEVER discuss anything on the phone. do it all on the qualcomm. that is evidence and proof of what you say and are told. that can save your arse. phone conversations are he said she said in a gonna get fired situation.

    on another note, i had a heater hose blow on me one night. i was in the hillbilly, (west virginia for the newbies) on a 2 lane backroad at 2am in the dead middle of winter. no where at all to stop. no cell phone service. had the better half and the kid with me. had 3 cell phones. none had service. go figure. qualcomm messages are not monitored overnight, no one in the office.

    i had no choice but to drive my truck till i could get parked. ended up going 25 miles with not a drop of coolant in the cummins. seeing how it was 20 degrees probably saved that motor. the oil temp never went over 225. i would speed up and cut the engine when i could, then pop the clutch to refire it when i needed to. got parked in a small backwoods town that had 2 redlights. went to sleep. locals woke me about 7am, and one had access to water and the items to rig me up and get me down the road.

    i cant believe the engine didnt cook. i guess the 20 degree temps and shutting it down when i could saved the thing. got fixed and rolling and got a call about 10am asking if i was still broken down. jerks.

    let me get this straight dude, your sitting at shippers for free(no layover) your a 24hr truck security guard(for free) now you also want him to be a diesel mechanic for free? guys making 500 dollars a week not 1500...

    It's pretty easy to tell the experienced drivers from the steering wheel holders in this thread. Some people are so busy making sure they don't help their company that they can't see what they are costing themself.

    Look at the above quote i did above, again, i ask that YOU SHOW ME, where you said to pull over safely??

    I think the ASSumption you made, was on YOUR part.

    NEXT TIME SAY SO UP FRONT, NOT LATER SAYING, "WHAT YOU MEANT". you left yourself totally exposed to ridicule, and you'll get it in spades.

    gizmo, the engine will derate. will operate barely at a crawl, the only logical reason to do that would be get to a safe place.

    There are 2 types of drivers, ones that know everything, and ones that don't. Oh wait, my bad, there are 3, the ones who think they know everything, but really know nothing. Some of you are giving him bad advice, and some of you are just trying to insult him. Try to remember when you where new. Someone helped you out once in a while without insulting you. Step up and do the same, and maybe the fellas transition from newbie to experienced driver will be short and pleasant.

    Learn as you go, man. I know there are a bunch of things I could do (or at least would attempt) mechanically now that I couldn't when I started.

    And I am NO Mr. Goodwrench. More like Mr. CanRecognizeAWrenchMostTimes.
