Hi everyone, I have a question about a job I just took. I have a class A with all my endorsements but no experience. A small local company gave me the opportunity to drive for them. But im wondering if what I'm doing counts as experience to get a better job after a year or 2 here.
The position requires a class A and it's a 26 foot flatbed truck with a 20 foot trailer hauling a forklift. I was wondering if this will count as verifiable class a experience to other local companies? Or does it specifically have to be a tractor trailer? Thank you
Does this count as experience?

Some companies count it as experience and will want you to go with a trainer for a few trips to learn with the larger trucks. Some companies hire drivers with a CDL-A that have never driven at all. Maybe have graduated from cdl school 10 years ago, then decided to do something else. Companies still hire them and put them through a refresher with an experienced driver for a few long trips.

It may count as minimal experience. Just so you know, a lot of "experience" trucking co's want has nothing to do with actual driving. It has to do with dealing with shippers/consignees police agencies, how to properly load a trailer, how to weigh a trailer, how to trip plan, how to properly do a log, how to fuel, do paperwork, etc etc.

Most innsurance companies look for two years experience in 'like' equipment and frown on anything else
