Rolloff is a little more specialized, like tanks or flats, more attention to detail ect..

I think that only for starting with a very heavy load, maybe on an upgrade. Ive never used one though. I see someone already answered this.

How it went today,
Learned the hook,
Backed into a bin, stalled the truck 3 times cause I didnt know what the hell I was doing
Then guy broke it down to me, this company has a high turnover rate, people come and go. Didnt seem like a great thing to say
Boss yelled at me after, talked to me like a degrading manner. Of course ive never even shifted let alone used a clutch before. Couldnt even find gears. Total driving time lasted about 5 minutes
Boss daughter doesnt seem so nice either. Know it all and hard to reason with
####ty day
Oh, the truck passenger door opens half wat....have to do some spider man stuff to get in and out...slammed the door shut on my hand. Small cab, big guy, door open half way....makes it hard to get in and out -
Goodguy88 Thanks this.

Broke down how bad the company is at keeping drivers.
The door opening halfway was quite annoying. -

Roll off work is worth learning, stick with it and don't be discouraged. One tip, if you have a REALLY heavy can, or one that's in very soft ground, learn how to pull the truck UNDER the can.... In other words, hook you cable, release your parking brake, pull the cable tight then lift the rails just a few inches off the ground. Wind the cable in and let the truck pull itself underneath the can. After the front rollers pass the rail's pivot point, slowly lower the rails as you continue winding in the cable. Once it is about ¾ on the trucks rails, the back of the can should come up off the ground..... Be ready to tap your foot brake, the truck is liable to roll at this point. Apply your parking brake and finish pulling the can completely onto the truck. I've worked for a scrap yard where we load cans with heavy steel, if they are too heavy or stuck in the ground you can snap a cable if you don't load them this way.
We've had an old Mack DM for the ten years I've been at my company, similar to the red one you posted the photo of. They're bullet proof trucks, but they WILL have little quirks like the tach that won't work.....
After you drive them for a little while those stupid little things bother you less and less.Last edited: Jul 8, 2017
