I have a new Uniden Bearcat 980SSB. It is in my basement. I am running it out to K-40 Mag mount antenna that sits outside my basement window. I placed it on two over lapping large round cookie sheets for its steel base. These round steel sheet sit directly on the ground.

The reading on my internal bear cat SWR are as follows
    Ch 1: 2.1
    Ch 20. 1.2
    Ch 40: 1.00

However, on may Astatic PDC1 external SWR meter, my readings are:
    Ch 1: 2.2
    Ch 20. 1.8
    Ch 40: 1.5

I'm not sure why there is a slight difference. Are these readings okay, given the set up I've described?

    Thank-you

Your external meter is more accurate and anything under 2:1 is acceptable, especially in the configuration you have it.

Calculate power loss of a oscilloscope or spectrum analyzer if you want to see which is more accurate. I bet both are off

Either way...SWR is probably just fine...But a K40 magnet mount antenna on a cookie sheet, sitting on the ground is not going to get you much distance regardless of what the SWR meters are reading..
