Dilemma: Backhaul on empty or not to go at all...
Load pays $3000 for 730 miles - gets offloaded Friday afternoon, so there are slim chances for a reload. It is kind of important to return home before Saturday afternoon for a social event. Drinks and laughs is something that I need in life too.
So, it is a little over 2 per mile both ways but return on empty is a breeze on easy on equipment. I don't care about $/miles any more...or should I?
According to the estimates (e.g. Toll Guru) after fuel and tolls I am left with $1900 - 2100 (depending if I avoid tolls) in 48 - 58 hours.
Then on Monday, after 34 reset you can start afresh.
Would you bother or would you relax until the end of the week?
Hmmm.... I have to decide until morning ....

Why not load to Tennessee or something like that? Get unloaded earlier, and have time to bring a load back? Probably turn less miles and gross more. 3 to 500 mile range.
I don’t know what this don’t care about dollar per mile anymore but just because your bank is filling up doesn’t mean you quit caring about the flow rate. -
But dam it...I checked my Soc Sec retirement prediction...at this time when I am 62, it'll be $1100, when 65 $1745 + half of that for my wife...At that point, if only dependent on it, I'll be telling myself. You FOOL you had a time when you might have had 2 grand in two days but you were lazy SOB and now you work at Jewel - Osco and bag people's groceries. -
Midwest Trucker and TallJoe Thank this.

I already have a juicy load lined up on Monday out of Milwaukee area. That one I don't want to jeopardize either with a would be backhaul delivery on Monday. -
@Midwest Trucker I'd rather think about revenue and what's left after fuel and tolls than rate per mile.
It is of course important to know what a lane paying potential is, not to leave money on the table. Only then, I may want to know what $/mile I was running for. LOL. This year I have not clue what my $/mile is. I know that I have already gone past $100K mark which was the minimum goal for the first two quarters. And as with a magic wand, the formula the profits are more or less half your revenue keeps proving itself. -
Never mind... the load is gone. I may go to TN after all. LOL
Midwest Trucker Thanks this. -
Guess you could do Columbus OH, Cin, or Louisville if you want to stay closer. -
BUT...
I don't know...I feel comfy at home. I think I'll have a drink, watch some Netflix and chill...until Monday.Midwest Trucker and dwells40 Thank this.
