Not sure if this is the right forum, but here goes.
I have recently been plagued by 3rd party companies hired by brokers to collect information, i.e. COIs and the like.
It is my stance that I only send that type of information to the party I hold a contract with. Today, I had a very unprofessional outfit try to backdoor me and go straight to my insurance company. The insurance company naturally called me and I turned it down, since I didn't even know who they were.
Then, I get three emails in a row demanding I drop everything and respond immediately.
I replied telling them their conduct was unprofessional and I don't do business with 3rd parties. The juvenile at the desk responded by sending me another request.
So my question to the brokers is: Just how much money are you saving by hiring a 3rd party to pester the carriers? Especially when I already provide a COI when I sign the contract with you. Is there really so much of a problem of unqualified carriers that justifies this process?
As a prior victim of identity theft, I am now very guarded with whom I share any information with. It makes me very grouchy when I am bothered by these people.

Hey Michael,
Are you referring to something like RMIS, or is it something else? I'm honestly unfamiliar with this practice, I can't imagine outsourcing something as important as making sure the carriers we do business with have the proper insurance to cover a loss in the event of an accident or something to that nature. -
I don't have a problem with RMIS and they actually save me time but yes these third party deals are just another way for the brokerages to put off responsibilities onto others so they can play the shell game when it comes time to pay and/or deal with litigation. Just like the rise of Triumph Pay, Arbitration clauses and forcing ACH payments to allow them to TAKE money from your bank account if they want to. It's getting bad. I'm in the middle of something similar with Trinity Logistics and Triumph Pay. I don't want to derail your thread so I'll start a new one.
Lite bug Thanks this. -
I was trying to not mention names. Why? I don't know. But, yes, RMIS and Assure Assist are the two main offenders. Funny thing, the brokers have no problem with me sending the COIs directly to them. One today shared my sentiments about AA (unprofessional, juvenile, no business etiquette). It leaves me wondering why they even use them if even the broker doesn't like them.
Thanks for chiming in '6! -
I never thought twice about rmis or assure assist.
Maybe I misunderstand but they just seem like a company that collects the information so that these other companies you're working for don't have to pay someone to do that.
It makes getting set up with new companies a lot easier because most of your information is already right there. -
I'm sure that's how they sell their services, as a convenience for the brokers. My issue with them is their aggressiveness and lack of professionalism. I don't like being hounded every week for yet another COI to "update" their files. First, it costs me $35 a pop, second, the information hasn't changed, so leave me alone. They over reach in order to justify their existence, and it's done at my expense. Plus, there's no guarantee what they'll do with my info. With the brokers, I have a signed contract with them with legal recourse.

What is COI and who is charging you $35?
I truly may be missing something but I'm signed up with a bunch of companies under RMISPP and assure assist and as of right now I have never had anyone aggressively approach me at all.
In fact no one has approached me. As of right now no one has approached me even once about anyting.
I have filled out the information and signed up with broker after broker and that's really about it.
So from my experience I don't really understand what it is you're saying.User666 Thanks this. -
i dont think rmis saves time. musta done a 100 by now...yuk
