I have a few questions for u experience road dogs. I'm a recent grad from da boot state. I've talked to a kllm recruiter about miles. He say they drivers average 23 to 2400 miles per week, and i wud start at .32cpm. My question is how does it really work. Do they give u a trip thats worth 1200 miles and u get there in 2 days or 3 days. then another trip the same way or what. In my opinion the way i see it is that kllm and other companies control your pockets as dollars concern. They can give u a load when ready and deadhead u when ready. then their trucks are govern to a certain mph. Example: Lets say my log starts on sunday. On Wedesday i've reached 1700miles. At the rate i'm going, i know i cud hit 2800 by the end of the week. So kllm or another company goes "oh no, we can't let that happen. We gonna let his ### sit for awhile at a truckstop before we decide to give him a load. On the other hand they may give u a ###### trip to slow u down. I may be thinking to ahead of myself, but it sure seems like it cud happen. Oh Yeah! 1 more question. This has been on mind my mind a lot. Where in the hell do we take showers at, besides paying for a room everyday to take a shower. Ok!!! i got 1 more and thats it. With yall's judgement at 0.32cpm and average 2400 miles per week, what do u think i wud bring home. I know u multiply it and it comes to 768.00, but i've heard guys talk about bringing home $800.00 to $1,000.00 net. with atleast those miles without any insurance been taking out of course.

    • You earn showers on your rewards cards at the truck stops that you fuel at. No need to pay for a shower unless you chose to.
    • Yes, you will start at .32, put you will also get other little amounts like extra pay for a Haz Met load, extra pay for multiple drops, detention pay (although that is getting harder and harder to see), and little amounts like that. They can add up.
    • As for the sitting vs. running, I don't believe that there is a big conspiracy to keep your pay at a certain amount. I don't think that they think about drivers at all when it comes to planning the loads, only how it will suit the company's needs. Some days you will run, other days you will sit and not make a dime.

As a former driver KLLM they don't sit you around just for the **** of it. Your miles as a new driver will start out slow but as you prove that you can pick when you are suppose too and deliver when it is to be there your miles will pick up. They are a very good company and for the most part you don't sit around they don't make anything by sitting you at a truck stop.

I agree with what has been said but Wood slow down. First you have to get through Training ($400/wk for 6 weeks, if I remember correctly). I understand your concern and while in the Training Program all this will be explained along with your questions will be answered.

Expect about $35000 gross as a 1st year Driver. Also, you will get short runs and long runs; just depends if you are in the right place and the right time. You will never know this at the time until the trip comes. It averages out to 2500 to 2800 miles a week, even for experienced Drivers. You could have 35 to 3600 miles one week, next week 2400 miles. All depends on a lot of things. Hometime, freight in area, number of trucks vs number of loads in an area, etc etc etc.

If you have a good work ethic, get the trip done while keeping your mouth shut, and don't make any waves; you'll be fine. (your Dispatcher will help you so don't be afraid to keep in contact with him/her during your trips.) And all trucking companies look for this, including KLLM during the 1st 6 months. If you can make it through this 6 month period as a Solo Driver, the rest of your Driving Career is a piece of cake.

Sorry, no tax-free money. Every dime you make will be taxed.:biggrin_25513: Even back when they offered the tuition reimbursement, the government taxed it.

I have been with KLLM for a little over a month and have not regretted coming to this company. I still have a lot to learn about their policies, but I have a great dispatcher that is always willing to answer any question I have and has not made me sit any longer than a 1/2hr to start my next load after sending in my empty call.

Everything the recruiter told me was correct, but they did fail to mention once you get into your own truck they will deduct $25.00 a week until the co. has collected $350.00 which will be refunded to you provided you do not abandon the truck if you should quit or after serving 1 year of employment.

Every week my miles have improved since starting, at first all runs were 100% east coast with an average of 350 miles per trip.

This week will be the best week I have had since starting with the company. When I make my delivery Monday morning (to bad the receiver is closed on weekends) I will finish the week with 3486 miles and a restart on my hours.

It has been interesting using the QC since I didn't even know what it was until starting with KLLM and the inventor of this POS should be SHOT, I drove 145 miles with that #### thing beeping because I wasn't ready to stop and I figured if it was important they could call me on my cell phone. (forgot, we are not supposed to use these while driving:biggrin_25521:). After finally stopping and checking it I needed to go back where I came from to switch loads since the other driver didn't have his HM endorsement.

Here's the clue on the QC Beeps. If you only get a single beep, u don't need to stop right away. If you get a Triple Beep, stop at the closest safe place and read it. All trips come as triple beeps. Swaps are suppose to come as triple beeps but most of the time they come in as single beeps so this one is kinda tricky. They were suppose to fix that but it hasn't happen in over a year now.

Speaking of swaps, I always send a msg informing my Dispatcher to send my cell #to swap Driver. When the Driver calls, we get straight with each other on the swap info and I send msg to Dispatch that we have a plan of action. This is not company rule, just the way I do it cause before doing it this way, I've had to double back to swap locale. The QC doesn't always know where you are. It updates location from 1 to 3 hours ago.

As far as that Driver not having their HM endorsement, surprised they are still with company. Thought all Drivers with no HM's were terminated, guess not.

Another clue on QC (if company would do this, it would be great); it can (I've heard) speak word for word whatever the msg is when received. If true, that would help a lot. Just hadn't asked the IT guys about this cause haven't been to yard in a while.

    Thanks Ledbetter

I'm starting to understand the QC better, but coming from a company that gave their drivers a company credit card for EVERYTHING and had absolutely no tracking devices or speed limiters on their trucks this has been the biggest learning curve for me.
