Are you serious? If so I wish him good luck, I just think he is wasting his time trying to promote at a truck stop.

Last night (August 13, 2009) I was at the bar of the Village Grille in Montgomery Village, Maryland. I noticed a fellow behind me at the table in the corner watching us. When my friend and I got up to leave, he followed us out onto the sidewalk.

"Umm, I am homeless but I have a place to go to but I can't get there today, so, I am going to need money for a hotel tonight".

My friend looked at him like a deer caught in the headlights.

    "Nope, sorry".

The guy looked floored. Did he really expect us to give him money to continue his drinking at the bar or to pay off the tab that he had already run up for that evening?

I've often wondered if anyone has abandoned their rig on the road like Michael Douglas did at the beginning of the movie...just jump out of the truck in the middle of stopped traffic and walk down the highway saying "I'm going home now". Have a "Falling Down imitation" on their DAC. LOL :biggrin_2554:

Nicnat2. I have seen the same thing here in Vegas! Bought a burger at the Pilot and parked to eat it. Started watching a guy at the 15. 4 p.m. rollls around and he comes walking towards me. I think "oh no he is going to hit me up for cash". Guess what? He hops in his car and drives away! 4 p.m. is quitting time. Bankers hours! I drive local and you see the same pan handlers at the same intersections at the same hours everyday. With 2 days off in a row with nights off and all tax free! Makin more then Truckers. Two other things...

When I was OTR. I would recognize people and couples panhandling at different areas of the country. They follow the warm sunshine! Sheesh!

Second thing. I was in my 4 wheeler checkin into a hotel and was approached with the " Hey I got a broken fan belt...bla...bla...bla...How about $40....bla...bla. I mentioned this to the desk clerk and he said " That guy again? And got on the phone right away to the cops...

Have you seen the Walmart in South Pittsburg, TN lately? That place is a truck stop that doesn't sell diesel.

It's happened. I've witnessed it. I used to run with the company drivers with the company I was leased onto back in 02... One of their driver's did it on 440 in Little Rock... Not only did I move the truck off the highway, I was went onto babysitting detail. A team loaded at the same place we did & just happened to be going to the same place... So they split that team up to get the abandoned truck moving.

Wasn't that JB Hunt doing that years ago? Come stick a little piece of paper on your window say big miles, big trucks, big money, frequent home time. Call 800-blah-blah now!!! The guy would put in on your truck, then knock on the door to wake you up. As you get up you see he has moved onto the next truck....

And those are the people I would give money to.... Not to really support their cause, but to support their honesty.

The best thing to ask a panhandler is when they come up to you and you know they are going to ask for money is " Can you loan me a dollar" you take the words right out of their mouths. You cant believe the looks you get!!
