Guess there is not a lot to say. But that could be a good thing. Actually, they are on my list as a "contender". I wasn't necessarily thrilled with everything about them, but I was impressed with my conversation with Adam, the recruiter. He was very upfront with his answers and he told me things that were obviously truthful because they certainly were not deal-closers.

    Here is what I know:
    $5400 tuition reimbursement
2 1/2 day orientation / 4 weeks on the road with a trainer
    No Slip-Seating
Take Truck Home with you (assigned truck)
    No Idling Policy
    Hometime 40 of 52 weekends
They do have a rider policy but no pets
    Solo Starting Pay $.30/mile
Training Pay $.13/mile ALL miles driven
Right now drivers are getting 1800-2000 miles/wk (normal avg 2800/wk)
    Benefits available after 60 days
    99% no-touch / 45% drop n hook

    Hope that helps!

Star discontinued their Student driver program in February. Must have a minimum of 6 months "on your own" according to the guy that answered the phone today.

Seems to me that no one is hiring new grads.

They used to run mostly N/E. They had a lot of junk trucks and was slowly phasing the junk out, then they went down hill. Used to be able to rack 3000 miles a week, but most avg around 2500 then the bottom fell out with miles and hometime.

So far, Star has been the only co. to contact me. I'm almost done with school too, and noted that on my app.
Do the recruiters look at that on the app, or do they just see the name and number and call? :biggrin_25523:

A few months ago they said "no students." At least here in TN. I guess that changed. Western Express wasn't hiring students. They took 2-3 guys from my school in the last week or two.

I would look for more prehires. A prehire means nothing.
