My first reaction is to give you both barrels.

But on further thought YOU win the internet sir. #### right so many people not part of the industry would have that position towards truckers.

    A thousand thanks to you.

To the OP, staffing groups. Tell them what days you work and go to work, report your income each week to Social security. They will deduct on 2 for 1 basis once you reach a certain amount each month.

OTR trucking does not "Do part time" any old dispatcher can waddle downstairs and round up the unlucky driver stuck in the waiting area for something temporary. The old part time or formally known as "Ad-hoc" has gone the way of Deregulation back in 1977 or so.

You may be sorry you got into a big rig when it's 50 mph sustained left to right across your rig loaded shoving you around causing you to fight that wheel all day or all night to not be late.

My workaround when I left OTR trucking was to be involved as a Crew Boss with a herd of CDL drivers to put into trucks and teach those who need it automatics and those who need it manuals and hold a few old iron for the old ones in my crew. Makes them very happy to send them back in time with those. I did that off and on until 2010 cataract surgery took care of that. College turned out to be one big fizzle. About 46000 dolars worth of fizzled waste. So there is that.

Not all disabled experience the joys of advancing medical to the point of returning to trucking. Its not the same as returning to flip burgers. Anyone can flip burgers. But returning to trucking? Now there is a challenge.

Don;t tell anyone but I chose trucking to get away from micromanaging abusive bosses in my time. It was the ultimate escape.

After i started driving 18 wheeler i realized that its weapon that you have to know how to control . You can injure so many at the blink of an eye , ruin families . Gun can make 8 shots and the bullets won't get the target all the time , now imagine 80k semi at full speed running downhill where the traffic suddenly stopped . In the wrong hands its heavy weapon !

For mental related cases yes it is a powerful weapon, however with the correct shotplacmenet it is so easily disabled. Might make a little bit of a mess but it will be disabled.

There is a video not too long ago on TTR from Camp Hill PA which is seriously dangerous with stopped traffic on all lanes at any moment day and night. Well here comes Mr Drunk out of his Mind trucker at cruise speed.

I think it took about 20 to 30 cars to get him stopped blowing through them. 4 of which caught fire and I believe several may have been killed. I don't have the facts in front of me But to me its a very good example of whats possible when a big rig has no one at home near the speed limit.

I would be far from the last or first to throw stones, Ive driven impaired before and frankly I choose to turn my back on that kind of a lifestyle. The doctor recently gave my ex a schedule of hours to stop medicine for her recent surgical work and to start driving which I think is about 48 hours give or take based on 7 times halflife of her medicine.

I do remember one trip at 19 where I experimented from a friend (Which as it turned out was seeking to income from sales rather than friendship, its funny how fast that corrupts him) getting home required some interesting thinking but it should have never happened the way it did. Never.

What I have to say my offend a lot of 'experienced' steering wheel holders but this isn't a hard job.

In fact anyone who can drive a car can actually drive a truck because they are basically large cars, when compared to the trucks I drove when I started.

Now you may notice I didn't say get a cdl, I said drive a truck.

But, and it is a BIG BUT ... knowing how to go down the road is NOT what this is all about

    Not at all

It is ALL ABOUT KNOWING WHAT TO DO WHEN SOMETHING HAPPENS.

Nowhere did I say trucking was easy or that you just sat there and held the steering wheel. I drove armored cars in SoCal for 7 years. You're driving a big heavy weapon with a bunch of idiots all around you. It takes a lot out of you just to keep the beast under control, do your job, and be safe.

My point is that I can no longer do a job where you have to stand, like clerking, waitressing, and so many other jobs. I also can't do a terrible amount of lifting. But I'm a #### good driver and I enjoy it. That's why I have been investigating driving semis.
