I am going to be running part time with a regional company out of ontario and going into the states and was wondering if anyone has experience with what paperwork needs to be ready and what I need to fax in order to cross over and enter back into canada with little problems?

    thank you in advance

When you pick up your load they will give you a bill of lading and an invoice (or ivoices) for US customs, the company you work for will need to set up an ace manifest for you, not sure if they explained this to you if not they should have, I have found that some companies do this differently so you will need to check with them as to how they do it. Then you will need to fax your ace manifest, your customs invoices and bill of lading to your customs broker. I always fax everything to make sure they have everything they need and so I do not have to stop and re-fax paperwork, It is a good idea to write you ace number on all of you paperwork.

Always call the customs broker before you get to the border (your company should provide you with a list of numbers) and make sure you have your entry number. US customs will turn you around if your paper work is not ready yet, and you do not have your entry number, so it is very important to call. Some companies will look up the number online for you and send it to you via satellite.

Returning to Canada is a lot easier. When you pick up a load they will give you an invoice for Canada customs, you company will have provided you with some PARS barcode stickers. Put one of these on you invoice and fax to the Canadian customs broker. If you pick up more than one load, you will need to put a barcode on an invoice for each load.

Also it is a good idea to call the broker before crossing, it is required if crossing at Windsor as they will turn you around, the rest of the borders will just make you go inside to see the broker to have you paper work cleared if it is not done by the time you get to the border, so again, a good idea to call before to save time.

when you cross back into Canada make sure they stamp the paper work, this is very important, Always check because I have had them actually forget to stamp it.
