I'm surprised they're not telling you: "Pedestrians always have the right of way! You failed to obey the 'traffic control' device. IE: The deer crossing sign."

There was no deer crossing sign in this case. Not that it would have made much of a difference. I cant slow down too much without being a hazard. Even at 65 I had about 6-12 trucks passing me an hour. I was still the slow one.

I dont like running over critters but I assume
most drivers that have been on the road for a while have hit at least 1. That was my first. Fortunately it was a smaller breed. It could have been worse.

Any company that makes such a big deal about hitting a deer is the wrong company. Up north here I hit them every year. Hit three or four in 2018 and one last year. Got a nich cow catcher on my daycab.

some people want the deer crossing located in remote areas to prevent traffic problems. The deer need to fnd a better place to cross.

I hit one in Oregon around 3 years ago at my last job. Was driving a Cascadia and it almost ripped off the right side of the bumper, but no other damage. I just zip tied the bumper back on and reported it to dispatch. No action taken against me, and I drove that truck for the remainder of the time I worked there with the zip tied bumper until I left and became an O/O. When I ordered my new truck, I made sure it had a steel bumper.

I actually have my insurance license in FL. So I can tell you this is not considered a "collision." It is considered a Comprehensive(Other than collision) claim. So there is no "at fault" or "preventable" aspect of it. If you swerved in hit a car/tree....etc. Then THAT is a collision and at fault. Think of it like hail. You can drive into a hail storm but it is still an act of God. Animals are the same. The only BIG issue. It must be ALIVE when you hit it. If it is dead, it's like hitting a "log." or other debris and is a collision. So just remember any animal you hit was alive when you hit it, even if it wasn't. lol ;)

You forgot one thing. Administrators at trucking companies have no integrity. Anything they can turn into deceiving condemnation of a driver, is fair game.
