Now, when it warms into the 40s, I'll check them, the pull valves tend to freeze up and leak when its below freezing, even though there is so little moisture, it can't be seen.
Air dryer cartridge being maintained makes it less necessary.
Do you drain the air tanks during post trip?

Change the cartridge on a regular basis and you shouldn't have to worry about it.
Don't change the cartridge and you'll be in trouble.
I drain during the day when it's warm. It's usually too late at end of day. When it's cold and froze.
Another thing that I've been doing lately is disconnecting the 2 lines off the dryer and filling with that brake dryer alcohol. That'll last a month before things start acting up again. Winter time.
Summertime I drain twice a month.Lab work Thanks this. -
Drain every time it comes out of a warm shop before it freezes in tanks .. In winter I drain when I go from cold weather to above freezing or in the morning if I idle.. For summer about twice a week or more often if moisture comes out..

Alcohol will put a wear and tear on the rubber in all valves eventually. By a new dryer and you won't have to add it.

Kind of a unique situation where the company is lacking in maintenance and proper training. Seems all they require is a steering wheel holder. I think if the company could do a better job of taking care of equipment and demonstrating proper maintenance procedures they could save money. Possibly avoid equipment failure. At Stevens Transport it was a requirement to go through the inspection process upon arrival at the terminal. I always thought it was inconvenient. But now I see the difference.

Some companies are smart with maintenance.
Some, are just too stupid and ignorant.Lab work Thanks this. -

The old school rule was drain daily. Hardly no one I knew ever did, but that was the rule. Depending on the truck I drain mine when ever I think of it. In my freightliner, I see the cord and drain usually when I fuel up. In my Volvo I have to open the steps to get to drain. So I drain when I think about it usually once a month of when I'm going home for time off during the cold months. Best thing is to incorporate it into your pre trip and do daily. It only take a minute or two. No such thing as to often.
