wow this worked well...haha anyone?
-
Well you have basically picked the worst time in the history of trucking, with extremely low freight and lots of experienced drivers sitting.....
I would pick door # 2 -
i would check around for the schools. the 4g's plus is a little steep. i went to a 9 week class at a local college and it was under 2 grand. that was back 15 years ago.
but check at the local colleges to see if they offer any classes in truck driver training.
usually, those type of schools have recruters come in and recrute at those schools, and have a better chance of placement. -
thanks guys. yeah the one i was looking at was 5 weeks. and it said they can even get you signed on a carrier b4 u graduate? also is it really that bad of a time for trucking?
-
surf this or other message boards. This is as bad as I have seen it in the 9 years I have been driving, but then again, I have never seen the economy this bad. I have been in the US since the fall of '86, so I missed the stuff in the late '70s early '80s. Germany's economy was great during those years.
Anyhow. Look around, in your 22 years times have NEVER been that tough, I guarantee you that. All aspects of life are affected, and that includes trucking.
I bet I would have a hard time finding a job, and I have a clean record since I got my CDL.
These people at trucking schools are kind of like used car salesmen or snake charmers. Only believe 10 percent of what they tell you.
You may be able to get what is called a "pre-hire", which means exactly......NOTHING. An invitation to maybe check you out a bit closer, but it does not mean you have a job.
Good Luck to you. -
thanks for the help. the econemy hasent bothered me that bad as i was never rich. haha
-
also does that mean id be better off signing onto a #### company such as swift? so i am guaranteed a job and hey i gotta get my experiance somewhere?

Run away from trucking, trucking stinks!
22 years old...you are in the prime of your life...don't waste it being chained to a truck 24/7.
With no friends/family.
Working 15 hours getting paid for 9.
Worthless health bennies with high co-pays.
And on and on it goes...
Did I mention that this business stinks?
