Do you recommend the use of aftermarket engine kits?

I have look at some from FP and Cleavite and Cummins the reason I asked this I was told most companies get their stuff from these sources, how true is this?

I was thinking of possibly buying some older Detroit equipped Freightliners and looked at Pittsburgh Power web site. They put ceramic coating on the top of the pistons and teflon coat the rods. You might want to check them out. When you are rebuilding an engine that is also the best time to make performance upgrades.
