I am down to the final paperwork on the lease, but im about to chicken out. I have my own authority now, and am not looking forward to letting it go, but i'm not doing all that good anymore. I want to do better money-wise and have a nice variety of reliable, and unique freight. So here is the deal, I like to be home on the weekends here near Atlanta, Ga, i have a 53' Step with ramps, i like to run Texas/New Mexico/Oklahoma and mid-west with equipment, i would like to go to these places weekly and get a decent back-haul and make good money. Would this be possible with Landstar? I hear and read so many mixed feelings from people who are with them. Any info good or bad is priceless to me. Thanks![]()

I'm leased on to Admiral Merchants and also own a 53 step with ramps. I know from my own experiance the area your talking about wanting to run has never been a good area to get out of. Not much frieght and cheap when you find it. I think where you live going north and south out of Atlanta you will do alot better. Also I have a buddy leased on to Landstar and I look at there co. load board and their frieght pays just o k. The money at LS is in oversize or Canada unless you are in with some of their agents .I also have a friend leased on to Mercer and their system SUCKS !!! When you get mty you go on the board. You may be #1 or you may be #40 the farther down the list the longer before you are offered a load. If ther are still trucks in front of you when you do get offered something it's more than likely garbage. There are times when he sits for a week or longer. Admiral used to be good but our freight really sucks now too. I'm looking at making a change too. Hope this helps

I wouldn't agree that our load system sucks... But I have never had this freedom before... I've always had the forced, this is all we got.... take it or leave it dispatching systems. You are correct... We do go onto a board & we are numbered on that board. But if your friend sits for a week or longer with no freight, then he obviously is picky on the loads he hauls or just isn't ready to leave the truck stop. Although, I don't know Mercer's system just yet since I've only been leased on a month.... I've only sat once for a day..... And I was offered several loads that I refused because I didn't want to go to NYC.
My opinion..... I'm impressed with Mercer. -
I hope it works for you. My buddy has been there 4+ yrs. I think like all new drivers they treat you good for a while then it starts slacking off. As soon as his trailer is paid off so he can get it away from Mercer he's outta there. He's not that picky just ain't gonna haul garbage freight, but when your way down on the board your gonna end up sitting.
