Fellow Drivers,
I have been reading over this forum the last couple days and am wondering will a company hire you with Sleep Apnea. I have been confirmed to have it by a sleep doctor on last Friday but he does not know how severe it may or may not be until he does a overnight sleep study next month. I am heavily considering returning to the road after a three year absence but now I am worried that no company will hire me or that my Apnea will cause me to fail a DOT physical. So right now all is on Hold until I can have the overnight study done but afterward will I be able to find a job. Any thoughts or Advice?

From what my Doc told me is as long as you are doing your treatments you will be ok for your DOT physical.

If you dont breath correctly the body cannot eliminate CO2 and other waste gases..
so i think you sort of suffocate slowly on a cellular level.
The CPAP machine corrects this from what i have heard doctors say -
I didn't see who paid for this research, but wow. Did we really have to spend money on this one?
Let's see... you have a disorder that leads to you not breathing properly in your sleep. We know this causes you to go for periods of not breathing and causes you to not get restful sleep on a regular basis. I wonder if that could cause you to die? -
It's hard to say what anything in the future will bring. I've heard all kinds of rumors about what they are going to do with the DOT physical. But until it actually happens, who knows.
What I do know, is that if you are having problems, and your study shows that the CPAP will help, or possibly eliminate those problems, then you will have a MUCH better life, regardless of what you are doing for a living.Ghost_Rider226 Thanks this. -
a guy down the street from me was diagnose bit refused any treatment he died in early march
my heartbeat was slowing to 25 bpm with 75-100 being normal

the cpap machine changed my life in a few weeksChickenbone Thanks this. -
I'm not questioning the disorder or the health effects. I questioning why we needed research to tell us that it was deadly. It seemed pretty obvious to me. Almost all the symptoms will kill you by themselves.
