That could cost drivers from $2500-$3700 a year in reduced miles. Once again taking it out of the drivers pockets. If better mileage was the real goal they wouldn't have their drivers driving the most unaerodynamic shape on the planet. Basically the drivers are footing the bill so they can run classics. God only knows how much the totally useless Eaton Vorads are costing. So no EZPass, and now turned down to Schneider speed.

I just posted a question about this on the TMC community site. Let's see what kind of response I get from it. Probly the usual "Saving the company money" line I'm sure. I think Swift and alot of the companies have turned thier trucks up to 65mph. Saves on wear and tear on the trucks and you really don't save that much money but running 62 versuses 65.
I don't think these Pete's are geared to run that slow anyway. I usually don't grab top gear til around 58mph anyway. -
Yea right saving money....
Just like the ez-pass. I guess it doesnt cost money to get comcheks (but it does) , I guess it doesnt cost money to transflo receipts (but it does), I guess it doesnt cost money to have someone process all those receipts (but it does) Actually losing the lowered toll fees for having ez-pass doesnt cost money (but it does) Actually losing time sitting in line at the cash box instead of rolling right thru with ez-pass doesnt cost money (guess not the company so why would they care but it does to the driver) Extra unneccesary wear and tear and fuel usage on the power units doesnt cost money (but it does)...Let alone TMC is so big on saftey, what about trying to get the money out and then putting change and receipts away before and after the tolls is not the most safest way to go either..
Sorry for rant, guess I'm still beating a dead horse with Ez-pass but I hit a total of 28 tolls this past week running the NorthEast. That was a one week record for me for grand total of $367. Now they want to lower the trucks down to 62MPH and take away the trainers bonus....It just keeps getting better and better....The camels back is getting awful weak, awful weak indeed. -
I feel for you guys, I really do. It's almost insulting to have such a nice O/O spec truck that only runs 65, much less 62.. I thought 65 was slow.. I can't believe they are doing this.
Talked to the training coordinator yesterday, their turnover rate has gone way up. He said people aren't even making it a month, some are quitting while with their trainers, i'm not really sure how this is any different than it was two years ago, but he made it sound really bad.
Why would anyone want to train now without that bonus at the end of 6 months? They said they "checked into it" and they were the only company in the industry that offers that type of compensation.. Again, something that set themselves apart from their competition employer wise.. For some reason, they are TRYING to bring themselves down to everyone elses level, and I don't get why.. They even said that about prepass.. "Our competition doesn't use it".. Yes, they do.. Even if they diddn't, who cares? Do you have to be like everybody else? You are friggin' TMC.. You're supposed to be better, classier, etc.
Somewhere along the lines that is getting lost, and, i'm sure they are probably in crappy shape financially which makes most of this understandable from the companies point of view, but, do you really believe it's going to get any better when the economy picks up? No. It will probably stay the same, because they will go from scraping bottom to stay alive to bringing in more profit at the drivers expense.. That's the crappy thing about the economy now, companies cut all these costs and they are never returned again, regardless of what the economy does in the future. It makes me really sad. -
If the company was really in any kind of serious financial trouble the truck wash policy would have been overhauled. Millions of dollars a year on truck washes, something completely elective.

I think it all boils down to a suck economy that's not getting any better. i wuz in the dsm yard this past wknd and camped out at the hotel. bumped into a couple of experienced guys who were starting orientation this past monday. one guy just left western express/smx because they cut drivers pay from 36 cpm down to 30 cpm and the other guy said he had a friend driving for boyd brothers and they just cut their trucks to 61. it's getting down to survival mode for a lot of these carriers. i'm just #### happy i nver ended up buying a truck awhile back. had the money for the down payment and everything and changed my mind. thank god for that! if i had my guess i doubt these things were decided lightly cuz it's always a gamble to do anyting that directly effects the driver but it's probably whut had to be done to ensure that we all have a job come spring. dunno, just my thoughts aobut the deal. long as i keep getting money in the bank every week i'll stick around. god knows there's no jobs in my town unless you want to work for minimunm wage.

####### buy the most un-aerodynamic truck possible, then cut um down....
Sounds like they need some aero cabs.

I guess I counted myself in the group of "lets go with TMC", they're "above" the other companies. Hearing about these changes makes me want to consider passing on the big black pete in favor of somewhere else, if they keep going it WILL be "like everywhere else." I hope things improve and go back to the way they were. As for me, I'm looking a little farther down the road for another company. Sounds like I won't be the only one. This is sad. Best of luck everyone.
