People went to work during the Spanish flue, despite that they were dying like flies. But they could not afford to sit idle and fear. At the time, there was quite a bloody war in Europe and for some of them the plaque was the least of their concerns.
BTW. Just curious if some of you "old farts" remember the day when Khrushchev sent the Sputnik into space (1957).... Were people worried about going out of toilet paper at the time too?
The sarcasm intended! Have we not become mass media steered sheeple? It is obvious that our great grandfathers were a tougher sort.

The Cold War was a different time. And thats one of the reasons why the Covid panic is not being felt by me. My concerns lie towards the functioning of society and economy actually. If the USA stops, then sure, I'll be loading the hardcast supers into magazines. But until that day I refuse to be afraid. After all Kruschev threatened "We will bury you" on Live TV. Reagan's Imaginary dream of a starwars and it's associated power shown by the USA in spending sunk the USSR.
HOWEVER. From the ashes of USSR rises a Russia who remembers their 1000 year history and are very determined that their lands are safe period. against any enemy. SO a land with a budget equal that of California's entire budget manages to build and continue to improve on her defenses, including a resurrection of a "Dead Hand" system. If any nuke detonates anywhere in Russia then the deadhand will become automatic and turn us into a wasteland. in 30 minutes.
Gloom and doom? HA. Been there done that. Bed time stories to scare the snowflakes who have no idea. ha ha ha.
But fear? Yes one can be human and be afraid. But as long you function and make decisions and act rationally on those choices you will come out ok.
One last thought I leave this here with. The fear of a EF4 erasing towns and valleys in a hour leading to weeks of cleanup by chainsaw and helping others is a joy to me. Its the long drawn out battles like Covid I hate. We are already so over it. Bleah, old news moving on. If we got sick? Oh well. We are old enough to have had a good life. And thus when it's time its time. We don;t go looking for that though.
Cheer up. That too shall pass. -
Nope. Kinda hoping they shut everyone down for a couple week . Could use a break and I'm the type to just keep going

If I did not have to pay $20k in taxes next month, I would have felt better about this whole thing
Rideandrepair, spyder7723 and HoneyBadger67 Thank this. -
The only thing that really sucks (IMO) is it will be the productive people, the ones with jobs and who put INTO the economy, who get sick. It will be the self-employed who can't afford 'health care' that end up dying. Meanwhile, the leeches and those that only take, who have the health care that we pay for but who have done nothing to deserve it, that will receive the 'cure' and the care necessary to survive.
Deere hunter, tommymonza and jlafume Thank this. -
They're working on a stimulus package now to provide low interest loans to businesses, and unemployment pay for laid off workers. I'm not normally a fan of bail outs, but when it's the entire country, I say go for it.
-
Everything will be closed, and maybe out of business in 60 days anyway. The stimulus is a sugar high which will wear off leaving a paraphrased cranky baby of a USA who has been given coffee against the rules...Midwest Trucker Thanks this. -
