I had good luck with a Mac half round. I didn’t own it just pulled it. The trailer was spec’d super light weight. With the little Petey pulling it, and keeping fuel low my empty weight was mid 28’s.
If I was ever to buy one wouldn’t hesitate to buy a Mac.D.Tibbitt, 650cat425 and mile marker 27 Thank this. -
That trailer must’ve been built pretty heavy, cause I’d figured you to be lighter than that. Is that about a 32’er?
-
No, 28’s is way light for a sleeper truck pulling a bucket. Most of the guys I know, met, or ran with were low to mid 30’s empty weight depending on the truck and trailer were set up. Looks shorter in the pic because of angle that trailer was 40ft.650cat425 and mile marker 27 Thank this.

Sure, thought it was shorter than that by the pic. 28 is pretty good fer a 40’er. I got a 38’ steel hopper that puts my W9L at 29.2. Really surprised me first time I scaled. My 40’ Timpte super hopper(aluminum/composite puts me at 27.75.
-
yeah the angle of the pic makes it look like a shorty.
I can so relate on the 900...
Boss man had me pulling some hopper a while back, I was 30k empty. I don’t know jack about hopper work but I thought that was a bit heavy.
Im 21680 full fuel then add another 250lbs for my big self and you can see what I deal with.
Been trying to get back in a 389 but they all have Detroit power, I’ll never give up a Cat for a Detroit. Those aren’t regular Series 60’s either, they are a Fitzgerald built gliders, so they take the suck up another notch.
Luckily all that hopper work I did he had bid flat rate so the weight wasn’t an issue that time.

Check out East too. I pulled an East bucket for a while I thought it was pretty solid and well built unit.
650cat425 Thanks this. -
That hopper sure nuff looks good on your rig mike. I can see why you stepped back fer a pic!!

Those slick sided Mac’s and Vantages look really nice. Are they as heavy as the stave sided East, Mates and Travis’s? And also are they as sturdy?
Tall Mike Thanks this. -
I pulled an East Genesis that was 36ft with a Pete 386. Iirc, my light weight was right around 33k. The genesis being double walled made a huge difference, plus it had a stainless floor in it. The nicest part was, the double wall almost acted to insulate it. I could salt the floor and cleanly dump coal when it was close to being single digits in the winter. A lot of guys near me seem to really like those half rounds like Mike had though. Guess it's preference and what you're hauling.
mile marker 27 and Tall Mike Thank this.
