The negative thing about checking out with the checker is that she is handling all the people's groceries ahead of you cross contaminating your groceries if the person is sick. For this reason We use the self check out during the flu season.

I think the trucker has excessive contact.

You forget the bathrooms, strip clubs, poorly staffed truckstops filled with people waiting a hour or so to order and jammed truckstops in winter storms elbow to rib full of people who cannot wait to get out and so on.

What is not usually taught to newbies is that the first year on the road usually runs a series of fevers until you gain the immunity in your usual operating area and that should usually be the end of that unless you picked up something extrodinary like a skeeter bite or some other introduction of something really dangerous. I do not really get big eyes to alert unless I am in known snake country. Those Diamondbacks Rattlesnakes are not welcome.

I remember one orientation decades ago where a florida person not used to OTR ate the same breakfast I ate at the small tiny diner in Rockport IN and had a excessive physical food reaction and shipped to ER asap. 10 others has the same food source without trouble but this one he reacted and got sick bad. FAST.

There has been times I praised trucking for having exposed my immune to this that or whatever. But there is always something capable of killing a human in interesting ways. So you live your life and roll on down the road and BE HAPPY. Your number will come up soon enough. Hopefully its when you are doing something you enjoy at work rather than slogging through a mismash of emotional hate against a bad employer for peanuts.

The canola plant I haul too gets on average 130 loads a day.
On Thursday they installed plastic wrap over the receiving office windows and put the barcode printer out into the trucker area so we don’t breathe on them or have any contact at all.

Those are the people who will get the sickest, in the long run. The only way to develop and enhance an immune system is to expose it to new germs. Granted, there's going to be that one bug that finally gets you but, in the end, we're all gonna die, anyway. If you're still of an age that you wish to procreate, there's no better gift to give a child than a strong immunity to whatever you've been exposed to.

I read an article yesterday calling President Trump racist for making a statement about foreign viruses. If the bug came from a different country, I don't see how calling a spade a spade is racist.

We certainly wouldn’t want people to feel stigmatized because a germ originated from their part of the world by calling it “wuhan virus”. That would be wrong even though we did that with west Nile virus.

The General Public, and the Government should look to all of Us Truckdrivers for guidance. We always seem to have all the answers. At least the BS level would drop.

The reason truck drivers are so downplayed is because do the disgusting truck stops we live at, the disgusting facilities available to us at shippers and receivers, a diet that ain't the greatest, and exercise that isn't either, mingling with people from everywhere, if we come through relatively unscathed, how is that gonna make the experts look?
