Pennsylvania O/O's Annual Inspection

    Howdy..
    This is for Independent O/Os registered in the state of PA.
    I'm in PA. I have had my truck for a few years now. I have had annual DOT inspections done on my truck and trailer.
    But I have NEVER had a Pennsylvania State Inspection done. I didn't even realize there was such a thing until I got pulled-over in PA during the blitz in 2018. The trooper said "Where is your state inspection sticker?" and I pointed at the sticker for the Annual DOT inspection. He put me out of service on the spot.

    My question is... Is it currently a requirement that I have an annual Pennsylvania State Inspection performed on my truck and/or trailer if I'm registered in PA?? If so, anyone know a place where I can "pay to pass" the inspection?

    Not to be ignorant... but how can you possibly be an owner/op and not know this? Secondly, if you got busted in 2018, why are you just now worrying about it? Third, who in their right mind is going to tell someone like you, on a public forum, how or where to skate a REQUIRED state safety inspection. TROLL.

    We have several trailers and once in awhile we miss getting state inspection on one , pay ticket show court new inspection then back to business. I have never once been put out of service for that! Sounds like you had an inspection that wasn’t good!!!

    So truck AND trailers have to be inspected?
    Where do I go to get this State Inspection done?
    How long does it last for?
    Why isn't the federal DOT inspection sufficient?
    Do they check different things?

    The truck MUST be state inspected. I do the trailer also just to simplify things. Some states, like Oklahoma, I'm told also want to see the federal on both. Any big truck garage can either do the inspection, or send you to one that can. A Pennsylvania state inspection is good for one year. The biggest difference is that the state inspection goes further in depth by checking more things... which is perfectly fine and legal. Each state can require more than the federal, but nothing less.

    Find a registered PA Inspection Station that handles big rigs. Like Rt 19 Truck Repair in Cochranton, PA. Costs about as much as a car inspection.

    Forget "Pay to Pass". PA had a MASSIVE crackdown a couple of years ago. Either get your truck legal to pass PA inspection or move it to another state.

    I was hoping for a Pay to Pass type thing, because I supposed it would be quicker. My truck and trailer are in working order, and passed DOT inspection. I'll call that location that you mentioned. Thanks for the info!

    We have an annual state motor vehicle inspection in NY.
    I am a licensed NYS motor vehicle inspector.
    With that being said you do realize that paying to pass a motor vehicle inspection is illegal.
    In NY and probably in PA it is a criminal offense to ask a licensed motor vehicle inspector to pass a vehicle for compensation of any kind.

    If you have Pa plates (truck or trailer) you are supposed to have a Pa inspection sticker. They have been shutting trucks down for not having them. Which in my opinion is wrong.

    And lastly lots of things are illegal. It does not mean they don't happen.
