Those are city delivery trucks, no dot# on the door, I had one with a lift gate, hauled home furniture, appliances, air freight, general freight, no log book.Just check with the state. Registration for the state base plate , getting an intrastate Authority or go onto the FMSCA web site and get a dot #. Then park it in your driveway and make your neighbors mad.
D.Tibbitt Thanks this. -
Congrats on buying a new business! That’s exciting stuff right there!

This is a new "reality" TV show, right? I can't wait for the next episode and see how this turns out.
buddyd157, D.Tibbitt and Snow Hater Thank this. -
As to what type of truck it is. The OP clearly said it was a moving business. I take that to mean most likely it is interstate operations outside of a local area. This means DOT operating authority and LOGS! -
OP needs to open the FCMSA website and read the section on Moving companies and the ability for wronged customers to address wrongs of the bedbuggers...States consumer protection agencies may have some additional hoops to jump through too.
Transfer of authority and DOT would require establishing one's own process agent and filing insurance...most likely a new DOT number and/or new MC number.
In essence it looks like the OP simply purchased a used truck with ambitions of making it a business -or- bought a tall tale from a less than legitimate moving "company", wink, wink, nudge, nudge -
To be honest, I think this topic was posted to the wrong forum. It would be better served in the OO thread. Let's be real here a minute. The largest problem for this person is not really the rules and regulations. It is going to be getting a good insurance rate and getting brokers to give the OP good loads. With no experience in this business, the insurance rates will be large and most brokers will tell the OP to pound sand. I honestly think the OP would be better served leasing that truck, at least for the short term.
