Chapter#3... Truck, Trailer and shop maintenance.
FCC assigned me a brand new 2020 truck ... :)
(To be continued in a few weeks). Sorry it’s late and I’m tired.

This is my continuation from my last post...
Referring to Chapter #3... FCC Truck, Trailer and shop maintenance...

On my first day of orientation at FCC I was taken to see and speak with the supervisors of trailers and trucks. One at a time at different points of times spoke about there jobs how there department works.

    Trailers.
All trailers are maintained in great conditions. They have a system in place that keeps tract on all trailers; and there trailers are systematically brought in for a complete maintenance from top to bottom. No trailer will leave the terminal property if it has not pass there complete thorough inspection.

    Trucks.
After speaking with the trailer supervisor I was introduced to the truck shop supervisor. FCC trucks also continually go through a systematic maintenance thorough check and are kept in a outstanding shape.
After speaking with the the truck shop supervisor he took me outside and showed me my brand new 2020 Freightliner. It has all the bells and whistles, plenty of compartments.. with only forward camera and no sound recording. And one huge! Refrigerator!
Truck has a APU unit a special compartment on the outside for chains, oil, liquids, etc.
Note: Please note.. I’m not saying that FCC gives every driver a brand new truck! I’m just telling my personal experience.

    Shop maintenance.
Without a doubt FCC has a great system. The shop maintenance program is outstanding and if you have a problem you just call them and they will help you out quickly. I have already tested them! O yea! I’m testing each department!

Chapter#4 D.OT. Medical evaluation and FCC road test. To be continued.

So I dropped in Four Oaks this morning, and then bounced home for my previously scheduled home time. I was originally coming home for a VA appt. that was scheduled for Monday the 23rd. I will be rescheduling that appointment (don’t want to be anywhere near a hospital right now).

I told dispatch if they could find me a load out this weekend I would head back out Saturday or Sunday. Freight levels for us are still high, so I will pick up a preloaded trailer Sunday in Sumter going to Plainfield, Indiana for a drop. I will plan on staying out until freight dries up, the Feds shut us down, or the Covid-19 takes me out.

Dropped down into the LA Basin during rush hour this morning.

The traffic was like what you would expect at 0400 on a Sunday.

Sitting at the TA in Ontario now and the lot (@ 1600) is only about 25% full.

    It's kind of creepy....

    Question...
Are any of you having the same experience?
I had the chance to stop at a Super Walmart to do some food shopping and fill my truck refrigerator.... At least that was the plan. All I could find and purchase was 2 small breakfast boxes and 3 small boyardees! Nothing else!
Maybe I will get lucky at another location soon!

The last 2 Walmart’s I went to were like that. Local Family Dollars and home town groceries have a little more.

Really enjoying this thread. New here headed to Fremont on Monday to start orientation on Tuesday. I was just wondering if someone can tell me what to expect with the road test and the physical.

Also, I’ll be running the SW Regional lane, I live in Fort Worth, Tx. I was just curious how much home time y’all usually get on the weekends. Is it just for the 34hr reset or is it usually more.

I can help you on the road test question, pretty simple road test. Hook to a trailer, do a walk around once hooked up, drive on some two lanes through an industrial area, a four lane road through town, and back onto a road that is a US hwy back to the terminal. At least that’s what I did three years ago. Just relax, it’s not a high stress situation.

Maybe a SW regional driver will chime in on the home time question.
