The navy guys i was stationed with all got payraises when they went on training deployments to guam or bahrain etc. Us jarheads got sent to the desert and LOST money because theyd take away cost of living allowance. That was always a slap in the face to come back broke and the sailor kids were buying cars with the extra cash. We hated having to go and they were lined up.

That was hazardous duty pay iirc. Pretty sure a combat zone got "combat pay"

During the 90s I was working merchant marine, and it was imminent danger pay. 100% boost to pay during Desert Shield/Storm while in the Gulf. Another 10% for hauling large quantities (10k tons iirc) of ammo.

Life was good. Too bad most of those jobs (including mine) are all gone offshore now.

And I won't even comment on the insanity of the rigs whipping thru container ports at 70+

Maybe he has a load of toilet paper going to Walmart. Thunks he will have to run the gauntlet to get thru the gate.

Now, THAT would constitute some combat pay... or whatever you want to call it.

I offended, he gets 5 bucks a mile and is bragging. Then thinks he should get more pay for what ever he called it.

I’ve been home since mid January and planning to go out soon then all this crap started, I’m getting zero pay and schools are closed and three grandkids are at my house all the time. They only live 5 houses away so it’s easy to go see Grammy.
Much less stressful to go into a high risk area than entertain 3 bored kids.
