EOBR's- big joke!! I agree with truckerdave1970(kids need food, clothing, shelter. Mortgage co. still want their money!) Mileage decrease=Pay decrease!! Don't take a genius to figure this out!!

The feds don't give a #### about making the roads safer. Everything they do is a sceme to steal more money, speaking of theft. If they gave a ####, they'd never fine the drivers, they'd fine the companies directly. That would end the problem immediately.

I happen to know of a driver on an EOBR system who ran 167,160 paid miles for the year 2008. His logs of May, June, July of 2009 were recently audited by a federal DOT audit that the company went through recently. They chose him because of the high miler report we are required to show them. They could not find one false log. The company is expanding the EOBR system as we speak and moving to eventually have most of the fleet on it. Drivers for the most part that I have dealt with on it like it and some of them say they will never give up the electronic logs. Those that don't like it cant run a truthful log to save their hide. They in many cases I have seen took a load they knew couldn't be run legally in the first place. And there in lies a bigger problem because they are the ones that give dispatch the impression that it can be done. Yes dispatchers need to learn and planners do to. But with a tool like this giving insight to what it really takes to go from A to B. This would mean that planners could tighten up loads or give them some slack because the truth is in front of them and which customers are holding our trucks for times which are truly unacceptable will be seen to have rates when added to the holding time are not worth hauling in the end. There will almost alway be someone willing to take the risk and work for less pay. But those that do the wrong thing will have bad things happen to them in the end. You reap what you sew. And Karmic Justice can happen. You all have seen that at one time or another in your lives. Old dogs need to learn new ways or they will never get off the porch. Most of what I see here is fear in the absence of knowledge. Which creates hate and misunderstanding. I have and am working first hand with EOBR's and can say that it will require an education on many fronts for the system to be perfected. But if you look back at the pioneers of the industrial revolution and how people scoffed at them......:biggrin_2552:

    To sidewinder429,
While what you are claiming may be true, until I see it for myself, in my paycheck, no one is going to convince me that I will be able to make the kind of money legally that I can make illegally, UNLESS this industry makes some severe changes!
Customers that make you wait hours and hours, then tell you that you cant take your break on their property, or refuse to let you deliver 24 hrs a day. Those seem to be the biggest obstacles to productivity to me. And you know, the customer is NOT going to make changes until they have no other choice. Maybe when all trucks are 100% compliant, then we will see change happen. I am afraid that I'll be in bankruptcy court long before then!
Just in the last 2 weeks since my company rammed this nonsense down our throats, I can show proof that I have lost over $700 of potential income! That's 1 weeks pay I lost in the last 2 weeks! According to my dispatcher this morning, he tells me they spend most of their time setting up relays b/c no one has hours! He claims I am not the only driver struggling to cope with this. But my corporate safety director cant see how the company is going to lose money. I can only imagine how many other loads we have failed to deliver on time, making me wonder how long it will take before our customers give our contracts to another company for our poor service! I hope my company has enough money saved back to stay solvent until every truck runs 100% legal!

The only people that are in favor of eobr's DO NOT know how to properly use paper logs and would be better suited for them to be standing behind a counter asking me if I want fries with that!

I don,t know how many paid miles you average per month or believe you need, but, I will state that i drive consistently between 11500 and 13000 every calendar month. I take 1 day home for every 6 out and run 3-4 wks at a time. I log where I am when I am 100% legal. I may leave 5 min early and use the nearest 1/4 hr to my advantage when possible to help out. I have run without a reset for the last 4 months and average about 450 miles/day. The only way I can figure the previous example works is on a dedicated round trip. Can you live on the above miles? If not maybe you need a different vocation.

I take offense there rookie. I was running legal and PROPERLY using a log long before you even had an idea which end of the truck to be in. The problem is drivers who are to low IQ'ed to log legal and make money. They would be better of stocking shelfs at wally-worlds.

And I bet they let you go home every day too! Do you think they would hire an ex-truck driver with a very low IQ?
