Former submariner here, chiming in. They do get weekly news in the form of a printout "downloaded" to the ship when the boat comes up to periscope depth. Or at least, that's how it was done in the 90's. So they may know about what's going on out there, but they also may be getting their news a few days after the fact.
Being submariners, where social distancing is impossible, they are very well sealed off from the virus. But as long as they don't make port calls and stay aboard the boat, make sure all food brought down is inspected, and pay attention to their own hygiene (which is strictly mandated anyway) they should have no problems.Chinatown Thanks this. -
This is why they need young ladies on submarines. After the world is de-populated by the virus, they can come to the surface and start the world anew.
