Here's some more info about Werner. I recently took my paid time off. After a month of training, I decided that it is not the job for me, or maybe its just not the right company. I called my SDM(student driver manager) & told her I wasn't coming back to work for them because I'm in the middle of selling my house & with only 75 hrs btw left, I told her I don't feel I am ready to do all 48 states, Canada, & haz-mat loads like they said I will be doing once I get my own truck. I then stated that I would consider coming back once I get my house sold. She said if I'm not back within a month I would have to start all over again. I said that was ok. I just got a note from them saying:Voluntary Quit/Resigned "Your leave of absence will expire soon. Be back at a terminal B4 that date or this comment WILL show up on your DAC report. One bad comment on your DAC can ruin a successful driving career. Please don't let a lack of communication affect what is reported. Call me ASAP to set up your return bus ticket." That sounds like a threat to me. I am really ticked off. I have a good driving, work, & criminal record. My trainer also said I was doing pretty good except for a few things. If there are no violations, accidents, failed drug screens, abandoned trucks, etc. how can this be a black mark on my driving career? If I didn't have to take a 8-9hour bus ride from Pensacola,FL. to Atlanta & instead have a trainer pick me up somewhere close to here I would go back. I know this should be under "Bad Companies" but I just want to warn people about Werner.

Yeah they are a bunch of idiots.I recieved the same postcard when i was done training and went home for a week(i took a leave of abscence)after my training was done to keep them from having me out 2 months without being home.

 

KCorey, I guess my question was how many days did you have off every month and thanx for answering that.....How long did you work for Hill and Hill? So when truckers retire do they rely on Social Security ? While working did you get paid well enough to own your own house, new car? Or is trucking a check by check job? My questions are just trying to get a feel for a trucking career, what to expect how to do it right. How do hotels come in the picture with trucking do companies pay for them? Or is it up to you to pay for them being trucks have their own sleeping cab. Is it just OTR routes that have a cab? What is OTR considered over a certain amount of miles, out of state? thanx for reply

Does otr pay alot more then regular driving(or whatever you call it?)

 

no otr does'nt pay more and in some instances company's pay less when you drive otr in the western areas.I know when i was with swift they would pay for ex 30 c for anything east of the Miss river and 28 c anything west of it.

Otr is just that otr, If you are not home at least once a day,you are over the road. Hotels, only come into the picture, when you are broke down, or you the driver can not drive for 24 hours or more. you are more then welcome to get a hotel anytime you want. but the company will not pay
for it. As far as relying on social secutity. that realy depends on you.
Ok, you seem to asking about house's and car's alot, i was triying to give you
general response, every single person is different, I have been driving for
7 years(legaly) I own a 2800 Square foot house, A 2004 harely Vrod , A 2003 tahoe,1996 camaro( my first car) And i have a factory five cobra kit, when i get the feeling to but it together, i will probaly sell somthing.
I am my no means rich, Do i make more then most? yes i do but i have put in the work, and took alot of risk, to get were i am.
Do not be stupid with your money and you will be ok.
